My guess is that unless your profile is little unique (in terms of yrs of exp), 700 folks will not get the call. Neither in A nor C. Sorry if i broke many hearts here. I am also collecting peices.

I don't think speculating without full knowledge of one's application content is a good idea. We just have few more days to go for IIMC shortlist and things will be out in open.

Going by my last year's experience you can't count anyone out. So, hang on guys..control your emotions for few more days..

I agree and remember that PGPEX is very different from PGP. Your years of experience and essays will probably get more weightage than GMAT score and since it's IIMC, a good quant score will probably offset any below-average verbal score. So, hang in there for one more week.

ME > If there are several student who want to be taught at IIM and pay market price and there are several teachers who would like to teach at IIM then why IIM cannot have education for every one?

IIM > Boss, this will devalue the brand, and then cream will get almost similar treatment as retail level students....this is against the core principle of capitalism.

ME > Agreed, i also like capitalism, why you cannot launch more such programs and fill the demand supply gap. Let people pay for their education. Let people teach for money. Lets build a marketplace.

IIM > Good idea ....but someone needs to do it......hmmmmm....

Well, it all depends where you would like to position your product- class market or mass market. Also there is an issue of short term gains versus long term gains.

May be IIMs don't feel the need to move into the mass market; may be they don't think that they will be better off, even financially if they move into mass market.
Well, let us assume that IIMs can admit some 20,000 people and get teachers who can teach all these people, then what will happen?
Will all these guys get jobs? what kind? Will they get at least a lakh more than they are getting now?
If not, what is the fee IIMs can charge?
1 lakh? 3 Lakhs? What would be the net gain after meeting all the expenses for IIMs? It could even be negative compared to today's situation- one doesn't know! I guess one will learn all this in micro-economics, marketing and finance

After all this you might sneer at IIMs for destroying the brand

Hi,
First about myself-
GMAT - 760 (Q51,V41) AWA 4.5
Exp - 6.5 yrs, Energy & Metals, Sales and design, Automation
Edu - BTech Electrical, IIT-KGP
Extra Acads - Active in social service (Education sector)

The last point brings me to the reason for my first post. I could not resist the discussion on expanding IIMs
The point of demand and supply for MBA education is very good. The fact is today we need great MBAs. Typically every MBA from good India Business Schools leave with multiple job offers. So I am sure Demand far outstrips supply. And if IIMs manage to scale up (given other constraints) I am sure the problem of over-capacity and quality dilution is years down the line.
"" May be IIMs don't feel the need to move into the mass market; may be they don't think that they will be better off, even financially if they move into mass market.""
IIMs not operate with a 'profit' motive if they did I think IIMs would expand as fast as they could.

The USP of IIMs is (i) Great Brand (ii) Great pool of professors.

Why not IIM professors design a course where they devote atleast 2 yrs daily in trying to create more professors. Because they are not doing it we are seeing smaller institutes are trying to fill the gap and we know bad professors only create bad students.

Warning: My GMAT score is only 700, so whatever I am saying may be incorrect

But I agree with you.

Making things more market dependent will solve some of the problem. Market is a great innovator. So you will find unique solutions to the problems of infrastructure and lack of professors.
