So not sure, which one I should provide. Can u please tell me if thrs a change of mind at IIMC's adcom end as to the GMAT registration no. since ur post in this thread (post no. 54 ; date: 22-05-2008 ) ?
Ofcourse if you have received an official reply, I don't think there should be any scope for confusion for you. Go with what PGPEX office asks you to do. As regards my post is concerned, it is based on what I had provided in my application last year and also what my understanding is after talking to few people here.
On a related note, I don't think it is of any great consequence what number you provide there as long as it is unique to you. This number might be used in rare circumstances when two applications have same name and very similar profiles...but thats just what I beleive...

I am applying for 2009-10 PGPEX program. Below is my brief profile:

Job designation: IT consultant; Mostly technical work though
Work ex: 5 years+
Role: tech lead
Vertical exposure: poor; worked at BSE, Mumbai for 2 years
GMAT score: 730/5.0
International work ex. : Nil though my current client is based in the US
Acads: B.E. 79%, 10+2: 81%, 10: 91%
Professional certifications: NCFM securities module, appearing for DBF (Diploma in banking and finance) to be held in December this year
Extra curricular activities: Played football for my company in corporate tournies, member of a gov. registered NGO

I have few queries regarding the the application:

1. One essay asks for 3 important events in last 5 years at my work place.

Which kind of events I should highlight? What are the points I should stress on when mentioning those events? Can I mention an event involving the NGO I am attached with, say, raising fund for a social cause from my current employer?

2. I have zero international work ex. Will it have a negative impact on my candidature? Can you give me some suggestions which I can mention to counterweight absence of int. work ex.?

3. I am from IT industry and like to shift to IT consultancy in banking after MBA. But as of now I have zero exposure to banking. So should I mention specifically what I want to do post-MBA in my SoP? Also, can I mention I am appearing for DBF this year?

Let me know what is my chance of getting a call vis-a-vis current and previous batch profiles.

Thanks in advance.
1. Anything that highlights a particular strength, or any significant challenge faced and resolved by you...Regarding NGO, IMO when adcom asks about significant events from your proofessional life, they would prefer something more mainstream.
2. It gives edge to extent that one has had exposure to cross cultural work environment. You can possibly talk about various different experiances in Indian context, just to illustrate the same point, though I would not go to the extent of saying that it'd fully offset the lack of intl. exp.
3. You should sound reasonable and convincing in your SoP. Having zero experiance in a domain and aspiring for the same post MBA might tell adcom that you don't have much idea what you are getting yourself into, or whatever you have might be based on hearsay. You don't wanna do that. Somehow you have to give a coherant reasoning that compensates for lack of exp.

Altitude, thx so much for starting this thread and all your efforts out here.

Hi Alttitude,

Could you please help me with answers for the below questions? I could not find details regarding these elsewhere.

1. What are the different electives available at the IIMC - PGPEX program?

2. If a candidate aspires to pursue a career in a XYZ company or a particular industry and if XYZ or any company from that industry have not recruited from IIMC yet then in what ways could IIMC help the candidate in achieving his aspirations (if at all it would)?

3. Does IIMC have a decent sucess rate in career switching, especially from IT to Business Consulting?

4. How will IIMC aid a candidate in shaping his venture ideas into a realistic business?

5. Could you please throw light on "International Project and Study Tour"?

Thanks in advance

1. Next year they are making changes in the course structure and I think thats why elective information is not yet posted. Last year it was available on the PGPEX website. I'm sure once it is frozen it'll be up on the portal
2. This is absolutely no prob, you can give the contact details etc to placement representatives and the company will be invited
3. Consulting companies are one of the biggest recruiters from PGPEX
4. We do have a dedicated centre for entrepreneurship headed by some very senior profs who are very helpful to share their contacts and help refine the business plan etc. There have been quite a few success stories recently
5. Not completely sure what changes are in because its different from what we've done, but from what I know, the students will undertake a consulting assignment for a foreign company, make some headway into it while in India, and then visit the foreign country to complete the assignment.

Addition of extra sheets is allowed in hard copy. You can type on a separate sheet and insert at the right place

hi altitude,

i m an aspirant considering applying to IIMC--( okay my app is kind of ready)

but have queries which the website is not sufficient to answer.

1) my profile

Sales manager- single product - consumer durable company-Mumbai( my target 140 cr turnover)- 6.3 years experiece by mar 09. Excellent on job growth.worked in diverse markets.was best manager all india in 2006.good extra curricular.can write well, creative

education
gmat 680/3 in verbal

BE mech 59% ( i have bad bad acads- completed my course in 6.5 years- can justify that)
12-57%
10-56%

my area of intrest is MArketing.

was wondering should i apply???

1) if the institute is weighing too much on acads- i wont even get an interveiw call-- if the understand my change and work experience i will get a call- because i have excelled on the JOB.

2) How is marketing elective at IIMC -
It is important for me as i have learned on the job,and have clear idea of what i want.

do help me thank !!!

Every institute gives good weightage to acads as it is one of the few objective evaluation criterion in this game. But since you are postitive that you can convince them of your low grades, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't apply. If I were you I wouldn't factor in my chances getting an i/v call at this stage to make a apply/not apply decision, simply because nobody knows what might click.
We have some extremely good marketing profs at IIMC

What is meant exactly by the term 'managerial experience". How will the start of managerial experience be defined in a career in which yu do not have any reportees.

cheers!!!
