Dear Altitude,

Few questions on the 3 activities essays. I was thinking to choose from

1. Overcoming cultural and social differences in my present job when I joined (UK). perception of Indian labour , accents and perception of the standard of Indian companies. Organisational management in a new country with a team of different nationalities. (Present Job)

2. Introduction of Dynamic pricing and reducing pricing to gain market share. Faced a lot opposition but finally convinced the directors and increased overall revenue. (Present Job)

3. Failure of a start up. Invested all my savings to launch a product and finally had problems with the parent company and had to walk away. (1.5 years back) Started another venture which is moderately successfull. Risk taking, perseverence and emotional strength.

4. Lead a team of software development to develop and market a new restaurant billing software (I am a Hotelier).Product Development. Defined the scope of works. Understanding IT terms and restraints and explained the need of the industry in layman terms. The solution has the 3rd largest marketshare. (Last Job)

Question on the Incident Essay

I could either use (3) of the above or mention when I had serious medical problem which prompted a change in my career and gave me the time to understand what I want in life and define a career path.

Regards,

Mohit Mathur

Dear ALL,

My profile was missed somehow & I would appreciate if somebody could evaluate my profile & let me know whether it is worth an interview call??

Academics - Postgraduate in Pharmacy from UDCT, Mumbai - does being a postgraduate add to any advantage?? Have a good academic background

Workexperience - Would be close to 6 years at the time of admission, Working in Patents management & Projects Identification in pharmaceutical company.

I am a Registered Patent Agent

Was fully sponsored for a IPR course in Japan by the Japanese government

GMAT is 650 - which I guess is on the lower side

would value your comments & suggestions

cheers!!!
shweta

I am sorry if the answers to my questions below are common knowledge but my knowledge about IIMC is limited. I had placed IIM's on a very high pedestial (read beyond my reach). On starting the apps I feel I need to know more and get an idea of the IIM culture. Here are few questions for you

1. What is the method of teaching? Is it more case study based or lecture based. If case studies what is your opinion of case studies done in the Indian context.

2. How often does IIMC invite guest speakers? Is there a place I can get a list of recent guest speakers?

3. What is your opinion on the encouragent IIMC provides for entrepreneurs and funding.

4. I understand that it is a general management course but most B schools have their strengths based on the pedegree of the professors. According to you which areas do you think IIMC is strongest in ( Marketing, Consulting, etc,)

5. 1 Q which has nothing to do with my apps. Do IIM professor do consulting for companies while they are involved with IIMC. Are students involved in helping the profs.

My list may be unusually long. Please answer them at your convenience.
1. Its a mix of both, depends upon the subject. Case based padagogy is applied in subjects like strategy, marketing, finance, IT, sometimes operations etc. and lecture based is better suited for subjects like economics, statistics etc. Not sure if this answers your question, but more subjects are taught using case method than otherwise.

2. There are multiple occasions when speakers are invited, various fests, convocation, bschool competitions, etc. Exclusive for PGPEX, we have a course called "Being a CEO" where speakers address the class. Recent speakers for this course were CEOs/MDs of companies like Rediff, Jindal, Ambuja, Johnson Tiles, ING, Reliance (FMCG & Pharma), Berger Paints etc.

3. We have a dedicated centre for entrepreneurship. Very senior professors chair this centre and help aspiring entrepreneurs connect with the right people and also in refining the business plan...

4. IIMC is traditionally known for Finance, Strategy and Economics

5. Yes, they do consult for all big names. A large number of professors are also on the boards of various biggies, both MNCs and public sector companies. Students who are interested in taking up extra assignments can approach the profs at a personal level and help them in their consulting assignments. To my experience, profs have been very friendly and supportive in this regard.

Well, hard for me to say, depends on how well you can write about each one of them. Topic wise all are very interesting to me...
About the incident essay, I'd rather chose from one of the 4 topics...the idea is to look from ad-com's point of view as to what would interest them...

Sure, I think good academic record combined with a double degree is an advantage.
Workex - On the lower side (avg is 10 for past 2 batches) though the diversity element may make up for it...
GMAT score is very low, but since you cannot help it now I think you may want to give a lot of emphasis to your extra-curriculars to make a strong case for your candidature...
Since every bschool looks for diversity in every form, they will certainly take notice of you being a female applicant...

Is there any way we can check if the institutes have recieved our scores from GMAC?

Is the only way to verify that is by mailing the PGPEX office?

Thanks

Two more possibilities:
1. If the GMAC has sent it (in that case it'd be mentioned in your official score report), you can assume that it is received by the institute. Make sure in your score report that the score was sent to the insititute for the PGPEX program only.
2. You can send a mail to GMAC asia-pac customer support with relevent details asking to confirm.

Thanks Amit,
My GMAT official score card does mention the name of the institute & the code. So I would think there is no need to second check with IIMC?

You can mention your appointment number there. Registration number was mentioned in general to mean your unique GMAT reference number
