Hi All,

This is my first post on this thread.
First of all i would like to wish best of luck and success to all the aspiring applicants for PGPEX.

I applied last year to IIM A PGPX but did not get a interview call.Could not apply to PGPEX as was not able to give GMAT in time.

My Stats

Qualification:BTech Mechanical ( 73%) from State Govt Engineering College, very good XII and Xth Acads

GMAT:700

Work Ex : 7 yrs work ex( as on Aug 0 in Global Sourcing,Vendor Development ,Procurement etc with Automobile,Industrial and Retail MNCs.Started Career with Automobile biggie, then went to Medical Systems MNC,Back to Automobile MNC and now working with Global Sourcing arm of one of the biggest Retailer of world.Industries have changed but working all along in a similar function.

International Exposure:None ,visited China ,Europe etc on short business visits (2-3 times)......unfortunately i dealt with international teams but was servicing their sourcing needs out of India.

Managerial experince:I have been managing sourcing portfolio of around INR 60 to 250 crores but in our function not many people report to you as you manage suppliers/vendors ,hence have a lot of project management, crisis management exp but only a small team of 2 reports to me.

My question to the present PGPEXians is whether my experience is still less to apply for this year, should i wait for oe more year.Last year i applied with 6 yrs of work ex...

Secondly seeing the GMAT average of last year class ,should i try and improve my GMAT score ??????i think i can manage upto 730 as i floundered in actual test last time.......above 730 is beyond my reach......

Seeing the profiles of present batch do you see i stand a chance to sneak in........

Waiting for your response and may be tips to make my failure story till now a success....

best regards

MKA

Best Regards..

I don't think they are flexible in this regard...there have been such requests in past and I'm not aware of any affirmative response from their side...

what all details we need to provide? do we provide all the 8 semester details one by one or do we provide 1 entry about our colllege degree?

also do we provide the 10th & 12th details also. IIMA does not ask for those details...

Thanks
Ritz
Only your aggregate degree marks need to be provided, 10th and 12th details are needed.

I do not have a flashy eca under my belt...but certainly something to talk about...placement cell secretary in college...jt.secretary - rotaract club(School adoption, conducted moto races etc) ...and an athlete in school...
Can i expect a call from iimc...have seen the essay topics...not sure if i need to take professional help...do they really add value...
also, the reco. letters..how important are they...especially since my employer does not know about my application, would an outsider's reco be as effective...
and generally hows the interview..grilling like in the 2 yr courses?..is there a gd...help me to brace up...thanks in advance..
My 2 cents:
Number of years : Slightly on the lower side
Diversity factor : Pretty strong
GMAT : Competitive
Acads : Very good

I think you have pretty decent chances for an i/v call, but thats just my opinion.

The professional help adds value in bringing about clarity of thoughts and trying to synchronize your background, workex, future goals etc. so that they align to one common bigger objective. The essays have to written by the applicant in order to genuinely convey what the candidate wishes to convey. Having said that, the professional services are certainly not a must if one has enough clarity and experience of what the adcom expects.
I have offered admission related services to many candidates, you can IM me should you need any professional help.

Regarding importance of reco, I think they are important to the extent of getting a sort of testimonial from someone closely known to you. The recommender can be your previous supervisor, or someone who you think you can confide in in your present organization.
There is no GD, interview duration is typically 25-35 mins. The formats vary from panel to panel, typically its not that grilling.
Hope this helps.

1. In the career summary section, it says that mention your present position first. Does that mean the current company only?
Or does it mean that if you have performed more than 1 role in the same company, then mention both of them separately to enlist the career progression that you have had over the time in the same company.
To me it will make more sense to give multiple entries for the same company, if applicable that is, so that we can highlite our career progression.
2. Where do we mention our professional accomplishments such as appreciation certificates/ awards etc.
can someone answer please...

Thanks
Ritz
1. It typically means to ask the current role and not the career progression. Typcially one entry should be added for one employer.
2. There is an optional essay for highlighting things that you could not cover otherwise.

My responses:
1. Though its true that your experience is slightly low on a relative scale, but I would encourage you to apply as you have an interesting profile. In any case you have nothing to lose by applying. There are many people in current batch with that experience.
2. GMAT is only one of the criteria, I think your profile is interesting otherwise.

Guys,

I think this is the time when we should start discussing the subjective questions that are asked in the applications, rather than only using this forum to express our concern regarding our profiles. Becasue a lot depends upon those questions. Would it be a good idea to discuss those questions?
We can discuss what is a suitable example for the 3 things we have done, 1 unusual incident & the SOP also..
We should discuss & come to the conclusion if a particular example fits the bill or not?
what say?

Dear All,

I am planning to apply to IIM A,C,L and ISB. Concerned about my academic profile and industry background.

I am seeking feedback whether I will get an interview call. The other options for me are UK colleges but IIM's, ISB would align better with my future goals. Are IIM's, ISB looking for a diverse student body in terms of experience and industry or the intent is more on potential placements and passing out salaries?

GMAT: 740 AWA 5- 2008
10th: 76% (1995)
12: 78% (1997)
Graduation Hotel Management: 58% (2000)
UCLA Extension (2008: Maths for Management 100/100
Job Profile: Started as a Trainee after Hotel School, presently GM for a small hotel group in London.
Entrepreunerial Experience: Failed franchisee startup 2007. Running a Small franchisee.
International Exp:total: 45, 9 months in UAE, 36 months in London.
Short Term Goal: Real Estate or Hospitality Consultancy
Long Term Goals: Revolutionary hotel chain

Well personally I feel you have a very good profile combined with a great GMAT score. Though your graduation marks are a bit of an issue, your GMAT score should be able to offset this to a good extent.
