Hi Everybody

After a rather longish hiatus I am trying to get back to PG. I have meanwhile resigned at work, started up my consulting partnership (bagged our first client and learnt all over again how to use MS Excel!! ) and started my prep to move to Uni of Chicago. However having said that, this time around, I do not want to move under the radar completely so have a few suggestions:
  • Please put up your questions on the forum itself cause that works for in two ways - I am constantly reminded of a pending job and it helps others get a perspective too. messages in private really take much longer on an average for me to reply to.
  • I would appreciate if you guys have some basic research in place since I am perennially running short on time...
Cheers and all the best

Kunal

Hi Kunal,

Congrats on admit into chicago.

I need your suggestion on my profile, I am 25 yr old . I am First Attempt Chartered Accountant and a Cost Accountant with 4 yrs of work ex. Currently working with one of the Top 10 intl Investment banks in India.

Would be giving my Gmat in july 08. have decents extra curiculars. My question to you is ..

I amplanning to apply to GSB Chicago, Columbia , Wharton, NYU Stern,ISB, Tuck, . Post MBA i would like to work with Investment banks in M&A/ Private equity/ Hedge funds. Do u think i have a decent profile to apply to the above institures,

I have no relatives in US , hence no co signor for me .. AFAIK an MBA would cost me around 150K $. do u think i would be able to get loans to fund my education .

Also please let me know of any CA whom u know is gonna join chicago as its one of my Dream schools.

thanks for ur help.

hi Sudhir,

I know this question was addressed to Kunal and i apologise for encroaching! just that you had mentioned columbia and i cant help butting in when anyone mentions columbia :P

just answering one part of your question: about the financing.

most top-10 schools guarantee loans without co-signors. i know chicago and columbia do. i myself have a columbia admit and have taken a loan without a cosignor. so getting the loan itself will not be an issue. and if you do banking, your loan will be paid off (the entire 150k) in two-three years. i have done a proper analysis of this so i think i can say this authoritatively

if you have more questions about columbia, i'd be glad to help

Sudhir,

I strongly believe that a profile is how you look at it and believe in yourself. From one point of view, I think I am the biggest dope getting into GSB this year. I have people with profiles that would evoke a vow from nuclear scientists yet from another perspective I bring in strengths that I know GSB would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. I do not have many extra-curriculars but have enough of practical point of view of my industry. So my question to you is, what do you think is my profile?
Your background sounds great and obviously worthy of the schools you are targetting. just make sure that
a) You write with passion
b) You can show a connect between your past, present, the school and the future you seek
c) You research well. you could be surprised to see what you might like or not like. I personally did not like Wharton but would have killed for Chi

And for the schoools that you mention, you do not need a co-signor. Only NYU Stern though will give you loans for upto the tuition and not for living but others will.
i do not know of CAs in GSB in our class but I know those in previous years. Will try and get you in touch with somebody. Else put a mail to the admissions committee and they will most probably lead you to the one closest to you or your present/future industry. Let me know if you still need help

Cheers

Kunal
