I do remember the application guidelines stating "about 500 words each". I suppose it would be wise to seek a clarification from the AdCom.

Congratulations to the short listed folks. Please gear up and get ready for another step in your quest for PGPX. I guess, you already have tips on interviews and do/don't. However, if there are any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

Those, who have not made it to the shortlist - remember that it is not the end, only the beginning of your journey for MBA. There are people in my class, who persevered in getting what they have now.

Good luck.

I also got ding

My profile 710/9yrs - Intl 3yrs/ IT/ M

Any idea if Adcom is providing reasons for ding? My rejection message reads
"However, we encourage you to apply for PGPX V (2010-11). More details are available on our website, www.iimahd.ernet.in".

Is this common for all candidates?

Best Regards

Guys,

Made it for the interview. Profile is 29 Years/730/6.0AWA/9 Yrs./ All in Financial Services and Asset Mgt.

Yup, it clearly states the following as far as essays go - "Essay Topics (about 500 words each) " in the email word attachment I recd. I'm not going over 500 words come what may.

Crap, I havent even thought about the essays. 15th September? That's ISB deadline too. Crap crap crap. Need to close ISB first and then turn to this. I dont have a clue on the Essay 3.

But I'm excited nonetheless.

I have similar profile like yours, Manufacturing/metals/good EC/NIT/1 month Intl. experience( 3 countries)

Exception being, I have 12 yrs of experience, average acads, and lower GMAT 700

I have been shortlisted. ProbablY what wokred in my favor is that I have managerial/leadership experience of 6+years and experience of general Management. My other activities and EC are very strong with papers, publications, patents, social service etc.

As u rightly said, on the basis of IIMA application alone, IMO, it may not be possible to judge the true potential of candidate. However probably adcom has its own criteria for selection. By looking at the profiles, IMO, IIMA has not given too much of weightage to GMAT contrary to last year. We have seen profiles with GMAT 680 got shortlisted. This year IIMA probably looked at more work experience, especially in mangerial/leadership position.

I personally feel that it is all important how well one package the IIM application and put in all the relevant details.

I feel your profile is very strong and wonder how u missed the I/V call.

All the best for your PGPEX interview.

I mean how will I convince the companies that 1 year MBA is enough reason to recruit me into a leadership position. The first question that will come up is how many people did you lead.. what kind of money did you handle?
Otherwise my IIT BTech. Work with compaies that are all fortune 500. International travel (I have visited 8 countries; other than Latin America and Antarctic I have been to all other continents).
Good EC (social service). Top it with a 760 GMAT score. I cant see any other reason why IIMA will ignore my profile.
Leadership potential is important but kind of difficult to judge from the IIMA application. For IIMA leadership can be demonstrated only thru the interview and essays.
I am ready with IIMA essays. So incase some one wants to buy it from me I will release it (we can discuss the pricing )
Anyway I feel great to have participated. Infact IIMA essays made my more aware of myself (IIMC and ISB are good too but IIMA is the best). And ding analysis is a good yardstick to measure what I have done till date and what I need to do to achieve my dreams.
All the best guys.

I have just called Adcom to check the reasons. The person on the phone has responded that this year they are not able to increase seats due to various constraints .

Guys,

I've got a question for the first essay - "What do you expect to gain from the PGPX at IIMA?". The question is - Can I talk about my goal towards a career shift into Portfolio Mgt.? Does IIMA even support that? I notice that Finance jobs are few and far between out there.

So, you mean no seat increase? 78-80 students only or upto 140 students are expected? Also, quick question (to everybody) on the Interviews to Acceptances ratio. What has it been traditionally, would we know? 7:1 is what I think I had heard. Is that correct?
