I have taken GMAT twice and I don't see why it should be seen as a dis-advantage. If any, IMO, it should be seen as a plus because it shows that you are committed to improve and are strongly aspiring to pursue higher studies.
cheers and ATB

Your views are highly solicited. | Hi
I completely agree with you. With your non-IT profile and extra-curricular activities, I think a good (read 730-750) GMAT should make your profile very competitive.
cheers and ATB

Hi,
Nice to see that we have a link for PGPX IV created and folks already started to share their views.
I tried uncussessfully last year and am in race again this year. Hopefully this year I would be lucky.

Very humbled to see such great profiles.
About myself, well I'm not from IT, not from Finance, not from Consulting, not even from Marketing.
So what do I have?
HAVE: nearly 8 years experience in ADVERTISING.
That too in Creative side (making TV ads, scripts, etc)
WANT: To get into Strategic Consulting - as it's the closest fit with what I've been doing (making ad campigns for big MNC brands, working with Marketing heads in companies)
My credentials: 8 years work exp includes 3 years in Hong Kong top ad agency
730 GMAT, decent ECs (art, theater, quizzing), below-average GPAs compared to all you gurus!! Got interview call at Wharton but got dinged.
Do you realistically think (i) Is my background is TOO unconventional to justify a switch to Strat Consulting? (ii) How can I improve my chances with this profile? Through essays?
ANy light would be very very appreciated. All the best everyone.

Great profile.. you can easily differentiate from others in the batch and this unique advantage would get you the interview call..and unless you screw up badly in interview..I don't see why you can't be in the final list.
Good Luck.. Quote:

I believe 160 is a good number; neither too big to loose one's identity nor too small to have an identity . i think it is indeed an appropriate number.
And that does increase our chances of making it.

Last year also they were open to take in 120 students, but ended up taking in only 80. So, it all depends if they were able to hire more faculty to accommodate 2 sections. So, don't hold you breath for 160 seats until we get to know the total numbers of shortlisted candidates which is usually about 5 for every seat. But I really wish that they increase number of seats this time.. Quote:
