Vickey,
I remember seeing 3-4 applicants from the manufacturing industry being offered admission last year. Not sure how many actually applied. If you have specific questions, I am sure someone in the current batch would be able to help you.
You are right, you have some diversity and your extra currs will add some more weight to your application. If you held a responsible position in such a huge project, then it gives you a definite edge. IMO, with a good GMAT score and well crafted application (besides your interview), you stand a pretty good chance.
How much international experience do you have?
Any awards/patents/papers/presentations?
Good luck,

My request is to have a look at my profile and have suggestions on the improvement areas.Do a background from FMCG and operations offers any advantages?

Vikas,
Basically, the AdCom wants bright students who can add to the diversity factor of the class. You need to highlight the important aspects (and play down your weaker ones) in your profile which will help you stand out from the crowd.
+ Good GMAT score
+ Clear reasons for pursuing an MBA
+ No Intl exp is okay - provide proper reasoning.
+ Highlight (don't go overboard) your responsibilities/role/qualities in your big project.
+ Organizing blood drive is good -as long as it illustrates your leadership/community oriented or any other qualities.
Of course, the first step is to impress the AdCom and receive an interview call.
Hope this helps,

Thnx Sanjiv ,
The guidelines are enough to provide direction. However I feel most of the times , a reason for pursuing a MBA.I think most of the people thought like this , however you can correct me on the style of thought or on the words selection. WHY MBA :- Being worked in an FMCG for 7 years and the entire exposure is in technical only. Moreover the exposure to other business fiunctions is very limited in the factory ,like finances, marketing,SCM . For further growth in the organisation , there must be an updation of the skills.
The factory offers limited scope in the skill enhancement as everyone is having its set performance targets.
Will this thought suffice?
Regards

Vikas,
You are going in the right direction. However, you need to refine these thoughts and tie them to your goals. AdCom would be interested to know -
* Is absence of knowledge in these areas limiting your career growth?
* How you propose to apply these new skills to your career in short-term and long-term?
* Can you learn some of these skills without an MBA (maybe just by changing jobs)?

Azo, IIM-A has one yr course called PGPX, whereas IIM-C has a one yr course called PGPEX. This is a thread for the PGPX from IIM-A. I guess you meant IIM-A and not IIM-C.
If your question is about the fifth essay then please read my earlier post: http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/intern...ml#post1174574 (PGPX IV - 2009-10: Application Process and Beyond)

In short, the optional essays are typically used to:
1. address certain issues in your applications, such as: low grades/GMAT score, break b/w jobs, less/no international travel etc.
2. highlight certain points (not/briefly mentioned in other essays) which would enhance your candidacy, such as: a new leadership role, certifications, extra curs, social work etc.
It's always a hard decision whether to use the optional essay or not. Here is a good link - Admissions Tip: The Optional Essay » Clear Admit: MBA Admissions Consultants Blog
Sanjeev | Hi guys,

Or is this something which will come up when i submit the application?
