Shefali,

The fifth essay was optional last year. The AdCom is pretty responsive - why not send an email?

In short, the optional essays are typically used to:
1. address certain issues in your applications, such as: low grades/GMAT score, break b/w jobs, less/no international travel etc.
2. highlight certain points (not/briefly mentioned in other essays) which would enhance your candidacy, such as: a new leadership role, certifications, extra curs, social work etc.

It's always a hard decision whether to use the optional essay or not. Here is a good link - Admissions Tip: The Optional Essay » Clear Admit: MBA Admissions Consultants Blog

E. Any other information that you believe will help us make a favourable decision on your application.

Giscard,

Your profile is great - excellent GMAT, schools and acads. However, your observations are probably correct. I'd like to say otherwise....

I wonder what the AdCom or anyone from the current batch has to say about your profile.

Post-MBA goal: General Management/Management Consultancy

I am not sure if IIMA PGPX is a good fit for me. It seems my age and work ex is on the higher side for regular 2 years MBA from IIMA but on much lower side for PGPX. I am also applying to ISB (where I am a good fit) and waiting couple of years to apply to PGPX later is not an option.

Do I have a chance or I am wasting my time?

Thanks,
Giscard

Debashish,

I am not sure either as I don't have an insight into how the AdCom works.

But, here's my opinion - for the AdCom your team as a whole may fall under the IT umbrella. You can make a stronger case by positioning yourself differently. If you position yourself as the one on the business side or as a domain expert, then your application may be placed in a separate "bucket". This may make a good case for the use of the optional essay - to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

Hope this helps.
Sanjeev

Thanks

I was filling my application. I have around 10 years of exp of which 5 years+ in current company and 5 years in previous 2 companies. When I filled the application form it shows up as:
Total current work experience : 67 Months and 12 Days
Total work history experience : 52 Months and 8 Days
Is this how it should appear ? I mean should total work history reflect only prev company data ?

@ Giscard
I agree with Sanjeev regarding your profile. Excellent profile. Having said that, 4 yrs is a little low looking at the profiles in current PGPX batch.

I am not sure where you got the info from on 2 yr MBA, but my view is that 2 yr MBA is still a good option for you. I see quite a few in the 2 yr MBA with your kind of work ex.

@ Sanjeev
Thanks for your efforts in answering all the queries mate. Given the current situation with our workload we (Pramod and I) are not able to frequent this site that often and you being around is certainly helping.

cheers
Prabhu.

Is there any way we can check if the institutes have recieved our scores from GMAC?

Is the only way to verify that is by mailing the PGPX office?

Thanks

@riturajc15:

Yes, the best way is to mail the PGPX office. I had taken the GMAT in May, and immediately after submitting my application for PGPXIV, I wrote them a mail regarding my score. The next day I had a reply confirming that my official score was indeed with them.

So - please ensure that the time period as suggested by the GMAC has passed (I guess it's 3 weeks?), and then write a mail to PGPX admissions office. Those people are very helpful.

Cheers

Hi ,
This is my first post in this section.I have read all the posts and I wonder that i didnt find a single profile from manufacturing!!!!!!!!!
Anyway here is my profile-
class 10 -78%
Class 12-79%
Bio chemical Engineering-75%

Presently working in a japanese FMCG organisation as manager maintenance.I have handled one green field project of 140crores.My profile has diversity in the sense , that I have worked in production , Packaging , maintenance and projects.

Literary activities in college and not much community services.

My total work ex is 7.5 years.

My request is to have a look at my profile and have suggestions on the improvement areas.Do a background from FMCG and operations offers any advantages?

Regards

Vickey

My first post in this forum

Need a small clarification from you guys. Is there any word limit for essays that we need to submit? I know it is a bit early to think of essays, but there does n't seem to be much time between interviews and short-list declaration.

Welcome to the forum!!!

Last year, the essays had a 500 word limit. If you are applying then you are optimistic, in which case, be prepared for the next round. It's better to start thinking about essays early.

Good luck,
Sanjeev
