I applied to this course last yr and was rejected after the interview. My profile goes as follows : GMAT 750,6 Acads - Good, EC - Good, work Ex (as of last yr) - 4 (Yes, you read correct) in IT Services. I got short-listed for interview. However, I could understand that the interview was not going to a positive direction - in a sense, I sensed the 'never mind, kid' attitude of the panel all along!
Now question, do you think is it worthy to re-apply to IIM A this year? Except from adding one year to my WE, my career did not see major changes.
I had a good mind not to apply again in IIM A. But the increase of seat is giving me some temptation. Inputs ?

Hi First of all congratulations on getting shortlisted with 4 yrs WE. This shows that there's something in your profile that the adcom liked which made them shortlist you. So I guess you should not lose hope and try again, if not this year atleast few years down the line. I am saying so because a couple of more years will not only add quantity to your career but hopefully quality as well in terms of more leadership positions, more international exposure etc. And if seats are increased this year, that number will remain (or improve) down the line as well. This is just my view and I leave it to you to take call on this. Regarding your sense of "'never mind, kid' attitude of the panel", even I had the same feeling during my interview (btw I have 10+ yrs of exp). I guess it's the same to everyone of us irrespective of our experience levels. Unless we have like 20+ yrs in the field, all of us seem like kids in front of the experience (and age) of profs who interviewed us. What say?
cheers

I strongly suggest you to go ahead and apply if you meet the age criteria. Given the diversity of your profile (in terms of background, extra-curriculars and experience) I see no reason why you should not apply. God forbid JUST IN CASE if it doesn't workout this year for whatever reason, atleast you would have experienced what it's like to fill the app, writing essays and attending interview. This will definitely help in putting your best foot forward the following year..

I am aware of the Loop hole in my profile - only 4.5 years. IIM A site talks about age restriction but does not talk about experience restriction like IIM C and IIM L talks about. I know the average experience is 7 years but i also see that there are not many CA's in batch 1 and 2 (actually there is only 1 in Batch 1).
now 4.5 years is very close to 5 years and to make my experience 5 years i will have to wait another year. Is anyone aware of any person who has made it to IIM A PGPX with less than 5 years experience. | | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Riya05 For This Useful Post:

Hello all !
Didn't make it to PGPX III, Applying again for PGPX IV 2009.
Profile:
Education : B.E (Comp SC) - 67%
Work Exp : 9 Years (IT Services + Semiconductor product company).
International Exp : 1 year [ Japan + US ]
GMAT : Scored 690/4.0 last year. [One reason of not even being shortlisted last year]
Have to better this.
Extra Cur : Social Activities, Music
I believe that for IT guys, anything less than 720 would put them in the gray area.
Unless ofcourse, you can make it up with a strong profile.
