* Is your work exp in IT? Please keep in mind that this is a very competitive pool.
* GMAT is on the lower side. The avg GMAT score is 728 for the current batch. My recommendation is to improve your GMAT score. As far as I remember the lowest GMAT score for a male applicant from IT background to get an interview call was 710+. That said, your chances of getting an interview call depends on the applicant pool, which is getting better every year.

Rest of your profile looks good. If you get an interview call and if you present yourself well, then you seem to have enough ammo to make it.

Good luck,
-Sanjeev

1. Age: 28 years
2. Work ex: 7 years (5.5 years international)
3. Top 4 consulting company
4. Engineer with 65% mark
5. GMAT (700/5.5)
6. Social service: quite good
7. Other activities: decent
8. A lot of team lead experience

Please help me out.

Hello All,

Is there anyone in this group who is applying from mainland Europe(i.e outside UK)? If so what are the plans if you get selected for an interview. How easy is it to get a visa to UK from other countries? Would we need to provide the UK consulate with the interview details?

I am currently in Germany and the end of my overseas assignment has not yet been clearly defined. If my overseas assignment gets over by end of August, then I would be back in India and there would be no issues. But in case it gets extended there is a possibility that I might be in Germany if I get selected for the interview.I had written to the PGPX office and they told me that no telephonic interview is possible.Hence I wanted to know from people who have similar issues of travelling to London.

It might seem a little premature that I am discussing about interview calls at this stage. But I want to make plans for all possible situations.Hence I am enquiring for the same in this forum.

Thanks & Regards,
Sudarshan.

An excellent blog written by an ex-PGPX student. Discovery of Time. This blog will give you a little peek into the author's life at IIMA.

In the blog there is a general FAQ which, I hope, all the applicants will find helpful: Discovery of Time: PGPX III - FAQs Updated

Hi Sanjeev,
I had send my mail to this forum sometimes back. but yet to get some feedback. Can you pl give your feedback on this?
=========
Hi All,I want to do 1 year MBA from IIM-A (PGPX). I would be really grateful to you if someone can let me know if my educational/professional background is good enough to apply for?
B.Sc (60%)
MCA (75%) (Master of computer application)
Age: 29work
exp: 6 years (purely in software development/technical stuff)
International exposure: 15 days to a single country
GMAT: yet to appear for it

lastly, I see lot of people who are doing PGPX having worked in software industry..but not sure, whether they all are pure technical guys and directly goingfor the PGPX or they have already switched their job profiles (meaning from technical to management roles) befor joing the course..Pl let me know your view on this also. whether do switch a jon profile to management side before joining the course?
Thanking you in advace.

MBAwarrior,

The avg exp is close to 10 years for the current batch. Your overall and international exp. are on the lower side. There must be something which helps you stand out from the crowd. Are there any other components (academics, GMAT, leadership abilities, extra curr, social work, tech presentations, patents etc.) in your profile which would compensate for this?

If you are very serious about IIMA-PGPX course, then consider applying again in a year or two - as you are still young. You'll get a chance to improve upon some components of your profile. You should also consider applying to other 1-yr courses offered by ISB, IIM-C or IIM-I. However, I'd encourage you to apply to IIM-A because:
1. it's free - you don't lose anything
2. if you are shortlisted for interview then you'll gain valuable exp.

Not sure how many current students were in technical roles before joining. However, I feel that it's okay to be in a technical role as long as there is enough evidence illustrating your leadership abilities and your true potential. It's either implicit or much easier to illustrate such things when you come from management side.

Hope this helps,
Sanjeev

Finally submitted my application yesterday night. Now to start working on the essays. Got to work on the ISB app too. So the next few weeks will be busy busy busy!

Does anyone know how many applications have been submitted so far?

Cheers

Re: PGPX IV - 2009-10: Application Process and Beyond - 07-07-2008, 08:32 PM

Guys,

My profile:
Age: 29 (Male)
GMAT: 780, AWA 5
Work Ex: 4 years/Civil Engineering/All Overseas/Non Leadership Role/Lots of client and public involvement
Education: B.Tech IITKGP (CGPA 7.5/10) / MS, USA (GPA 3.7/4)
EC: Good
Post-MBA goal: General Management/Management Consultancy

I am not sure if IIMA PGPX is a good fit for me. It seems my age and work ex is on the higher side for regular 2 years MBA from IIMA but on much lower side for PGPX. I am also applying to ISB (where I am a good fit) and waiting couple of years to apply to PGPX later is not an option.

Do I have a chance or I am wasting my time?

Thanks,
Giscard

Hi goformba,

I dont know how people define IT. I don't do coding. In Deloitte Consulting I'm leading a team that is working on a CRM product (in SAP) for client. My team is responsible to replace manual or semi-system work with a new CRM product. Thus my question is whether my work would be counted as IT or non-IT? I'm not sure.

Thanks
