Well...for starters, I felt that ISB can use the Zumba essay as a sheer measure of the candidate's analytical capability and persuasiveness. In the past, case questions have appeared during the interviews. But the fact that ISB has asked such a question in the essays might have something to do with the volume of applications that they are expecting this year. Such an essay would help ISB analyze a candidate's critical thinking better. Hence, ease the process of shortlisting candidates. These are just my not so random ramblings...
Am not too sure about online resources for case studies because the genuine ones are well-guarded. There are schools (read Harvard, Darden) that thrive on the case-study approach. It is difficult to get access to these cases. It pays to have an alum/insider as a good friend though
Alternatively, a few good books that can be used are:
1. Case in Point by Marc Consentino (cases explained in simple yet powerful language)
2. The Boston Consulting Group on Strategy
3. The McKinsey Way/Mind
HTH!
