Hi CMs(Classmates) ,

Have visited ISB campus today (Nov 24 , 2008) along with my wife and kids. My journey through the 3 hours

Went to the ISB campus at about 3:00 pm and while we were driving around saw lot of guys playing cricket..... (I had a sigh of relief and told myself after all it is not going to be all that difficult). After parking my car at the nearest possible place, we had-to/could-only walk into the main building. My 6 year old daughter's first expression - Wow dad your new office (that is what we told her!!!!!!) is like a 5 star hotel. It is very beautiful. Went staright to the admissions office, handed over the 2 lakhs DD. Found it to be the easiest way.

We then went around the new 5 star hotel. We walked around the atrium, cafeteria and a few other places. We had a glance of the ususal infrastructure. We then left the main building to visit the accommodation and other facilities. We started with recreation facilities. Found good tot-lot to start with. Then there were TT courts, Basket Ball courts, Gymnasium, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, swimming pool and 2 squash courts.(Yes you heard it right). All of them are of high quality. My wife was watching through the corner of her eyes at all the excitement on my face. I was really not bothered about the same. I was busy thinking of how I am going to freak out with all these amenities. After all I have just seen junta playing cricket and having a ball of a time on a Monday Afternoon??? ??????

I then requested the guys happily playing cricket, if we could see the accommodation. They made a few calls and arranged for the same. The studio flat ( a misnomer) for the married has 2 rooms. It had a living room and a bedroom along with a small kitchen and wash room. We then looked at the QUAD. It had a common living room surrounded by 4 individual rooms, a small kitchen and 2 common washrooms. Both the type of acco had all the bare minimum gadgets (burner, micro, tele, bed, sofa etc.,). We were told that the housekeeping staff takes care of everything except washing clothes. There were about 15 front loading washing machines to help us with that.

I talked to a few guys trying to find out about food. I Was told that there are some guys who go to the Sarovar run dining hall and some who are engaging cooks to getting food cooked in their rooms. Understand they are being charged Rs 400/- per head by the cook. Vegetables come to the campus through a grocery van. There are buses of 4 reputed schools, which pick and drop the kids next to the Student villages (hostels). Tried to find some students in the hostel, could not find any.
Just like all you guys n girls,( oh yes there was a beauty parlour), I was imagining the good quality of "would be life". All that got shattered in next 2 minutes. Boyyyyyyyyy I was told that all the guys having ball of a time with the bat and ball were operations staff (ISB employees). I was surprised. I then recovered and asked where are the students??.... .....Answer, ohhhhhhh the students, they must be in classrooms or library or rooms and ............ ......... ......... God, I wanted to hide my face from my wife, hoping that she would not know how dreadful I felt. I was happy she was not anywhere close to me and was busy taking care of the kids.

I walked back into the academic block ordered refreshments in the coffee shop. My family including my 2 year son found them good. I was a little relieved, I can atleast enjoy the food. With my stomach full, I thought would catch up and talk to a few students.

I started conversation with a guy who was loitering around lonely.

Q) Hi, you stay here?
A) Oh no. I am trying to locate someone in the Adcom to find out the procedure for admission into ISB? ( Oh god what a beginning)
Q – Now from him) Can you help me.
A) Yes (I thought I could smash through all the questions as I have now graduated to a would be ISBian)

A lot of Q&A’s followed which were of the following frequency…….

Q) Does ISB offer correspondence course?
A- Wondering to myself where have I got myself into) No

After politely answering all his queries, I started to look around for a student who was not busy. Finally found one, walked briskly and asked him, if he was a current student and If I could ask him a few things. Dejavu.....He was not one. He was a Teaching Assistant who helps the faculty with valuations of the subjects. He gave lot of funda which I could not comprehend. I thought I was actually told that there is no standard rule and no standard rule. All that I was trying to find out was the general pattern.

I again started my hunt for a student. Finally managed to bump into one who was walking very swiftly towards some place. Managed to stop him and after initial intro, he clarified lot of things. He said, "there are study groups with 5-6 in each group". I thought okay now the hunt begins for the formation of the groups. But before I could go further, he said they are formed by ISB using a complex methodology. In the first 4 core terms, all group activities are done by this group. The other details, teaching is through case studies and some real time games. Evaluation is generally based on attendance, individual assignments, group assignments, mid session exam and end of session exam. I was told that most of the exams have an open book/laptop policy and some also allow access to internet.

With that, I was a satisfied that I have gathered considerable information for a day's visit and thought it was time for a coffee and trip back to home. Took out 5 rupee coins to put them in the vending machine. First coffee was there in no time. Happily offered it to my wife. Then inserted the second coin. Gosh it would not work. Tried the Indian style of banging it………… did not work……….. Looked around to see if someone was watching me. Found none. Then banged it even harder. No response. Gave it up with the promise to revisit the coffee machine some other day………….

Bye for today………….

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 15-02-2009, 02:20 PM

Dear Vivek and Meranumberaayega,

You are absolutely right. I have been made a deferred admission offer by ISB. That must have been the reason for the delayed mail. After a great deal of anxiety on 10th night, I was made the offer the next day. In addition to less work experience,it could be that I am from a liberal arts background and require some prelim classes. As I applied in Round 2, there isnt really time for that by April.

I wonder how many people out there have got deferred admits to class of 2011. To the deferred admits: What are your plans for the coming year? Were you expecting the deferred admission, or planning to join this April? Are you applying to any business schools in this year? Taking any preparatory courses, planning to change jobs or continue in the same one, working hard or planning to travel?

Hi All,
I'm a R2 admit, but unfortunately I don't think I will be able to make a move to India (from CA) this year to join Co2010.
Any ideas about deferring the admission will be greatly appreciated. I have seen that users "meranumberayega" and "coolmayank" have deferred their admission to Co2011. "Meranumberayega", any suggestions? also, can I get your email id for any follow-up questions..thanks..

thanks,
Venky

I think many people had trouble with that mode. I guess they paid one lakh, two times. The codes are there in the email sent. In R1 there was choas as they changed banks after the initial mail.

Hi Venky,

I did not defer my admit, ISB offered me a deferred admit as I had low workex.

I have PM'd u my email/gtalk id. Feel free to get in touch. But on the deferred thing my 2 cents are that as per my knowledge ISB will entertain a request for a deferred from a candidates side only if there is a genuine pressing personal/professional/medical reason.

i just paid online. there are two ways to pay online - NEFT and RTGS. Depending on the bank, there is a cap on NEFT. But in RTGS, there is no upper bound, just a lower bound of 1L. However, you pay a sum of Rs 25/- to RBI, for the trouble it is taking to do a Real Time Gross Settlement. Suggest paying by RTGS.
