Note that ISB offers deferred admit only if they feel that the candidate needs more workex to make the most of his/her start at ISB. Chances of ISB accepting your request for deferral are extremely remote (unless you happen to be an outstanding IAS officer and the GOI taking its own time for sabbatical approval!). So my humble suggestion would be "Don't get your hopes too high!"

Here's a question: I have a deferred admit to ISB and hence have to give a deposit to secure the seat. On the other hand, the interviews for IIMs A,B,L and K are yet to be done.
I need to make a choice, rather decide whether or not to gamble. Could do with some help or inputs. Anyone?

If you are darn sure of getting thru at one of the IIMs, then do walk away - else you don't have any option, do you?

I second that. Using recession as the reason is likely to get you nowhere. I guess ISB will expect you to decline the admission and re-apply later. If you have genuine personal reasons (health issues, for example), ISB might be willing to lend a sympathetic ear.

Starting from this year, ISB allows you to use the reccos submitted in your previous application.

I would not advise you to use the same recos. If your profile has changed, it is highly likely that your supervisor's observations might have changed as well. I strongly suggest that you re-write the recos in this case.

Hi people,
I have a deferred admit to the class of 2011 from ISB.
Profile:
1.5 yrs- Tech strategy, 730, loads of extra-acads and good acads at IIT-kgp.
Waitlist R1 in Darden,
Cat-couple of calls, not from A,B or C
Now there is money angle twist as I have to deposit 4 Lakhs with ISB. So, am undecided.
Any take on this ..?

Need to decide soon, anyone with a similar predicament? Really dont mind working in UK/India/Anywhere as long as I can get some job!!! I really dont want to walk out of campus unemployed.
Any advice, please??

If your main concern is walking out of the campus without a job offer, then I don't think there is any college that fits your bill, given the current scenario! Even ISB!

I feel the first things a reapplicant would work on would be the essays / GMAT / work experience / extra-curriculars etc, depending on what you feel you can improve.
One thing I've learnt in this process is that at the end of the day, the admissions folks are also human. And you can add that personal touch to your re-app / waitlisted application by going and personally visiting the ISB campus. ISB offers a great way to attend a class and experience what the business school atmosphere is all about. And more than anything else, it would really show your interest in the school, since you have taken the trouble to travel all the way and meet students and faculty. I dont know if this would realy matter in the end, but in cases of close finishes, it might just help. You never know!
Check out http://www.isb.edu/pgp/ClassAttendance.Shtml
Anyways, these are just my thoughts.... all the very best to all WL/reapplicants.

I second the thought....
no school garuntee the placement .... and in the end its u who make use of the skills and knowledge and ...( lot of other things...) aquired at any b- school ..... and IMHO ISB will provide the best of all these and rest can be left on future.....

The way I see it, you only have a confirmed admit from ISB, right ? And IMO, LIKS don't really compare with ISB.
I would go as far as to say that in the present scenario, Darden wouldn't be worth it. I know graduates from Darden who are without jobs, with little hope of things getting better. Loans are an issue, visas might also be an issue.
I left scholarships from UCLA and CMU to join ISB. I know what you're going through. But I've put my faith in the Indian growth story.
