Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 15-08-2008, 08:58 PM

Hi . Im planning to apply for ISB for the session starting apr 2009.

my profile .

720/M30/9WE/Btech-IIT/Middle management-IT/Strong Leadership Ex./ Good International exposure /Good co-curricular

I'd a query regarding the Round 1 at ISB. Is there any advantage of submitting the application way earlier than the application deadline 15-Sept.
Does it give any benefit to the applicant. ?

Thanks

Hello moderators,

is there any data available about how many students in the last batch admitted in the second round. the reason i m asking this is, i want to know whether there is any disadvantage of applying to the 2nd round if i am unable to do so in the 1st. i am thinking of reappearing for GMat in october.

I had attending one of the conf at ISB on registration process (the road shows) and the host mentioned it quite clearly that there was no apparent advantage.

Cheers.

Which is quite contrary to what I was told when I went and asked the same question at ISB in Hydrabad?? I was told that I should try for the first cycle as the second is disadvantageous!!:sarcasm:

If anyone else has more info pl share :new_ukliam2:since it is almost certain that I have to apply in second cycle, since I have to make the decision of joining by Feb only.

Acads:
  • 10th - 69.6% (CBSE)
  • 12th - 69.7% (NOS):2gunfire:
  • B.Tech - 69.6% (ECE) (PTU, Jallandhar)
Work Experience:
  • 18 months and by the time i apply for MBA it will be 48 months i.e. session(2011 - 2012)
  • Core technical profile current designation SE(software engg.) & SME( Subject matter expert) and working to become a domain expert ( Life science domain)
  • Currently working with Accenture services India Pvt. Ltd.
Extracurriculars:
Average, Writing Poems my hobby

Havent given GMAT, but planning to give somewhere in NOV 09.
As its a start of my planning phase i m not sure where i m going, one thing i have decided is to do MBA do fulfill my career & individual aspirations to make it to big stage. Currently what i can see is myself as an domain expert & wana to lead a Life science firm after my MBA.

So my real question is:- Where i stand for the chances in ISB, i am fully aware my acads are not impressive so i want help from all the Seniors & PUYS to help me in improve my profile.
I have gr8 fighting capabilities with situations & please suggest how can i improve my Extra currs to make them avg to good.Or any other suggestions how i can improve my profile.
With improvement i don't mean any fake identity of aditya, i meant to say what kind of activities adcom think that is helpful(NGO's, Social service) please be lil specific in suggesting keeping in my technical domain in mind.

Thanks in adavnce

ISB AdCom has a thread on PG where they reply to your queries. They've stated in it that for people with experience, past academics are not considered, as the GMAT gives a better reading of current skills.

Give a good thought to why you want an MBA, and what you expect to acheive out of it. As it is, you are gunning for the class of 2012, so you've got time on hand.

Cheers

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 20-08-2008, 03:22 PM

Hi All,
I was getting 720-750 in GMAT prep and Power prep, but I gave my GMAT yesterday and scored 670 (M49, V33), I think I totally screwed up my verbal section.

Now as R1 deadline is on 15th Sept I'm totally confused.
I'm from IT background and have 4 yrs of exp, I've heard generally IT pool is very competitive. I wanted to give my best shot, but due to such low GMAT score now I'm not confident enough.

1. Should I apply in R1 with this GMAT score or Should I retake the test and try in R2? But even though I retake the GMAT, now I'm not sure whether I'll get the desired score or not.

2. I saw the class 2009 profile and found that 18% of the students are having the GMAT score in range of 650 - 690, while 56% are in range of 700-750. Does it mean that student with 670 score stand less chance of getting into ISB than the student with score 700+ purely based on the GMAT score or this break up could reflect some other aspects as well?

3. If I apply in R1 with this GMAT score, is there any chance of compensating the low GMAT score with other areas? If yes then what are those (e.g. Good essay, Good acads etc)?

4. If I apply in R1 and my application gets rejected in R1 based on my GMAT score then Can I retake GMAT and apply in R2 ? If yes, then will they consider me re-applicant in R2 and does it affect my chances?

5. Is there anything special I should mention in essay 4 to cover up this low GMAT score?

There are few strong areas in my profile
- Used be university ranker in my college, so acads are strong
- Working in SAP labs for four years and had been selected as the top talent (This award is given to only top 6% of the worldwide employees)

But I'm still now sure If these things can stand me out in such a competitive IT pool with this kind of GMAT score.

This is the year I can try for MBA, next year onwards it may be difficult for me due to some other personal commitments, so I want to give my best shot this time.

Your suggestions will help me overcome my confusion.
I¢ll highly appreciate the help from all of you.

Thank you,

Thank you,
Hi Darshit,

Surely the score matters quite much at ISB. The requirement for a high score reduces with growing number of years of WE.
