Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants -

Hi,
This is my profile :
Academics : good (X 91%, XII 81%, BTech 82%)
though not great (ie, not from IIT but from just a good govt engg college)
GMAT : 750 , 5.5
Work Exp: 10 yrs in IT in technical/semi managerial path, with 1 yr break for child birth
Interests : Nothing worth mentioning in school/college,
some moderate stuff such as volunteering for Junior acehivement, mentoring, starting women's forums etc during the last 5-6 years.
Hobbies : Average in painting, and likes to read books
I would like to know if I am too 'old' for ISB and can the lack of great extra curricular be compensated with something else ?
Thanks for any candid comment,
Geetha

That's a great GMAT score, considering the amount of your work-ex. Also, you can think of playing your maternity break towards the diversity factor, about the challenges you faced when returning to work - both in terms of balancing work/life and adjusting back to the corporate world.

I don't think so, ISB has a diverse student body. The ISB students/alumni will be in a better position to comment, though.
You should also consider the PGPX course at IIMA - (though the deadline for application submission is just 2 days away).
Cheers

Thanks for giving the idea of using come back after child birth for diversity.
I have one more question.
How do you get your recommenders submit their letters for ISB ?
Is it only after I click on submit button (ie, after I fill in all details including essays) that they get the request ?
Or should I do something else ?
Thanks
Geetha

In the Evaluation section, you have to enter the details of both the recommenders. Once you enter a detail and save, a link "send email" appears. On clicking this, the application system "verifies" the email id you have provided - I have no clue how. This will take maybe a day or two. After this the recommenders will get an email with the link to enter their recommendation. The "send mail" thing can be done individually for each recommender, it's not necessary to save both details before doing so. This whole exercise can be done before submitting your application. The recommenders have to enter their recommendations before the application deadline (not necessarilty before you submit your application).
Cheers

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants -

Hi,
I am looking for an MBA from ISB, but I have some queries. To start with, I will just brief you about myself:
B.Tech (CSE) from NIT, Hamirpur with 74.1% (2005)
Total Experience: 3 years 2 months
Current status: Working as a Senior Technical Associate with Tech Mahindra
Past Experience: Worked as a Senior Software Engineer with Wipro Technologies, Banagalore for 2 years 10 months
Xth : 82.2% from St.Clares Senior Secondary School, Agra (1996)
XIIth : 68.6% from Dr.Maria Residential Academy, Agra (1998 )
While at Wipro, I have worked as Technical Consultant for Texas Instruments’ End Customers in their Application Support team for 21 months and as a Quality Coordinator for the Nortel Periphonics Team for 11 months. In both the roles, there was a lot customer interaction.
Regarding my achievements & extra curricular,
ACHIVEMENTS:
·Paper on the topic “ Speech Recognition using Iterative Deepening Dynamic Time Warping” accepted for publication in Prastuti’04, IT, BHU .
·Presented a paper on “ Speech Processing using IDDTW” and won the 1st prize, in Technosearch'05, the annual technical festival for Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology-Bhopal
·Presented a project report on Water Pollution, which got the 1st prize in the district and State level and also received the “ Junior Scientist Award” for the same project in Dec’1996. - North Zone Finalist in Imagine Cup'05 in Software Design Category, being organized by Microsoft .
- In the Joint Entrance Examination ( JEE ) for the B-tech program in the IIT’s written by the students from all over India, I was among the 2.5% of the students.
- Was among the top 0.5% of the students in the State Level Engineering Entrance Examination
- Won the first prize in Brand Equity Quiz in Hillffair’04, the annual festival of NIT Hamirpur
- Brainbench Master’s certificate in Mathematics Fundamentals
- Brainbench certificate in Computer Fundamentals
- Received an ‘A’ Grade Certificate in National Essay Competition IN 1992,’93 & ‘94
- Received a certificate in poetry writing in All-India Literary Competition, Indore
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
- Started and working as the editor for Next Generation Networks fortnightly newsletter at Tech Mahindra.
- Was the Chief Editor for the College Technical Magazine, ISTE Chapter.
- Developed & Maintain the College & Alumni Website.
- Had been the Co-Convener of Controls Club for HillFfair – 2003, the annual festival of NIT Hamirpur .
- Was the Branch Representative for Nimbus – 2005, the annual technical festival of NIT Hamirpur
- Was the Senior Executive for NIMBUS – 2004, the technical festival of NIT Hamirpur.
- Was the Event Manager, Forum for Computer Engineers – 2004, NIT Hamirpur.
- Was the Executive Editor for the Technical Magazine, ISTE Chapter.
- Worked as an organizer of various fun activities within the Team for Wipro Internal Fun Weeks
- Have been providing consultation regarding technical (engineering) queries to the DLA newspaper editors.
- Consultant of Nimit Matra Cheritable Society (NGO), Agra
- Member of GIANTS International NGO.
- Life patron of ISKCON, Bangalore.
Weak points: Gap of 3yrs after 12th.
No International experience (I have never been to any foreign land.)
Explanation for the Gap : I took a drop to prepare for JEE. After one year, I got selected in JEE at a rank of 3079, but couldn’t get a branch of my choice, so I decided to take another year drop. Next year, I couldn’t make it to IIT, but got a seat in NIT, Hamirpur; but at the end of first semester, I got Chicken Pox & couldn’t appear for the exams and was forced to take a years back and join the session with next batch.
Hobbies: Astrology, Vaastushastra
With this profile I just want to know about my chances of getting into ISB. I am planning to take GMAT around June’09 & will apply for 2010 batch.By that time, I will have a total experience of around 5 years.
Thanks,
Manu

Hi,
I have searched this thread but can't seem to find much info on TOEFL. I'm a graduate from IIT Delhi and applying for ISB 2009. Two questions:
1. Does ISB require TOEFL scores from a person from IIT Delhi?
2. If so, I am in a unique situation. I gave my TOEFL IBT last on Sept 15, 2006. Which means that my scores will only be valid until Sept 14, 2008. And the deadline for R1 is Sept 15, 2008. Assuming I submit my application on OR before Sept 14, 2008, will my last TOEFL scores still count???
Thanks

The reason you will find nothing about the TOEFL on this thread is that it is not a requirement for ISB (for most of the candidates).
Most of the better MBA programs around the world (including ISB) will not ask you for a TOEFL or IELTS score if your graduation was in English medium.
For more information on any specific program, you can contact their admissions office or browse through the website/brochure.
Cheers

Yes, I do have the brightest of all ideas... But they are mine.. My very own, my precious....
The point I'm trying to make is that you should aim to bring our your personality in the essays, instead of trying to write "what the Adcom would like to read".
Cheers
