Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 10-03-2008, 02:52 AM

Hi PG's!

First thanks a lot for starting this thread on ISB 2009 admit!

Request PGs here to help me with my doubts..

Iam aiming for 2009 admit too.
Profile:
Work ex : 1 year in sales
1 year in IT (will be 2 years if taken till 2009)

My acads :
BE 67% / XII 68 % / X 73 CBSE

Extra currics: Music / hope to join NGO

My ques:

1. How is the work ex figure calculated at the time of applying - Is it the no. of months exp till we apply online at ISB (which starts at july) or is it till the start of acad year 2009-10 (which gives additional 9 months)

2. What are the major docs that have to be submitted at the time of applying? Do the marks sheet SCANS of class X,XII & graduation have to be submitted? For graduation, will consolidated marksheet do or semester wise?

3. This one is general - What are the other alternatives those applying to ISB can consider - since ISB accepts only GMAT, how to take care of other CAT score taking institutes. Can you give some prep guidelines for a person like me trying for both ISB & CAT Institutes.
(for eg: Is it a good idea to joing a cat course in TIME/IMS now & do parallel GMAT self prep to take the exam in Jul?)

What are the other possibilities for ISB appliers, if 2009 admit does not happen? (Iam 25,so dont want to delay further - want to join mba by 2009 ) Abroad MBA is a stretch for me financially & otherwise too

Advice welcome!!

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 12-03-2008, 07:57 PM

Its interesting to see the discussion being followed and thanks for the helpful post on 2009 ISB aspirants.

Like others , i would also appreciate if some experts can guide me my chances of ISB admit 2009 .

My package is as :
1) X - 85 % (ICSE)
2) XII - 85 % (CBSE
3) B.Tech (Chemical Engg) - IIT Kharagpur - 7.94 CGPA
4) SAP Certified Supply Chain Management Consultant
5) Gmat - yet to take
6)Total work exp - 8 years
6)International experience - 3 years of US experience and 6 months Germany experience .

Have worked in various MNCs in IT industry in India as subject matter expert in ERP domain.
Had been handling Knowledge management while in india as well .

Had been offered 2 twice to get into pure management but instead i chose to being a Architect/SME as i was really enjoying being in SAP domain (ERP) . Having said this, i started feeling the heat for a good MBA over last year and now i feel i chose i wrong direction for myself , should have started things much earlier . I am not sure if am too late talking about an MBA degree myself.

What sort of GMAT score should i aim for and if being late for applying for ISB will have negative impact on my profile ? or have i really missed the boat ?

By the way , i am newbie into this forum .

Any inputs/pointers highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

1. How is the work ex figure calculated at the time of applying - Is it the no. of months exp till we apply online at ISB (which starts at july) or is it till the start of acad year 2009-10 (which gives additional 9 months): The workex is calculated from the time u JOIN the school.. So for u itll be from 09 April.. However I must tell u, that though the minimum for ISB is 2 years, people on that threshold find it very difficult to convert..

2. What are the major docs that have to be submitted at the time of applying? Do the marks sheet SCANS of class X,XII & graduation have to be submitted? For graduation, will consolidated marksheet do or semester wise? : Ull require all ur marksheets, Some Certificates, GMAT report, Some Co-Curricualr activities, and a colour Photograph.. Grad marksheet can be semester wise or Consolidated- as u get it from ur university..

3. This one is general - What are the other alternatives those applying to ISB can consider - since ISB accepts only GMAT, how to take care of other CAT score taking institutes. Can you give some prep guidelines for a person like me trying for both ISB & CAT Institutes.
(for eg: Is it a good idea to joing a cat course in TIME/IMS now & do parallel GMAT self prep to take the exam in Jul?): IMHO, i think its a nice idea to prepare for GMAT on ur own while simultaneously taking tution for CAT. However, it can get a lil taxing as the strategies for both the exam differ a lot.. It just depends on how much effort u r willing to put.. Also, since u will be working it'll be that much more difficult..

What are the other possibilities for ISB appliers, if 2009 admit does not happen? (Iam 25,so dont want to delay further - want to join mba by 2009 ) Abroad MBA is a stretch for me financially & otherwise too : U can apply to all good B schools in India thru CAT, XAT, FMS, etc.. thru GMAT U can try ISB, NUS, Melbourne Business School, AIM, Nanyang, HKU.. If ISB is in ur budget then these too qualify.. also getting thru AIM and NTU will be comparatively easier..

Hope this helps..

Advice welcome!!

The apping process will start somewhere around july. In that case, this should be the right time for any aspirant to start preparing for his GMAT.

Let it be anywhere from writing GMAT to Application processes, post you queries here and get it answered.

I hope the current ISB PGs will also help us reach our goal.

Guys.. Please get three things straight:

1) There is no one on this forum who can tell u ur chances of making it to any B School.. For the simple reason- there is no mathematical formula thats works to find out ur chances.. So stop asking that..

2) There is No MINIMUm score that will help you thru ISB.. none at all.. I can tell u stories about people with 770 who din make it to ISB and people with 620 who got thru with scholarship ( I personally know these people).. So stop getting worried about minimum score.. Work towards the best u can achieve (that is 800 if u don know ) and then watever score u land on, work ur way up from there..

3) For any B school u apply to, it doesnt matter what ur profile is, how bad are ur marks (Well good score never hurt anyone, but bad score wont decide ur case completly)

The only thing that matters is how well u can package it. Can u convince them that u deserve to be in their school, U have the capability to study there, U know why u wanna do an MBA and what u wanna do with ur MBA? and also do u know urself well enuf, what work u have done all these years and why u have done that..

I f u have the answers to these questions, then u r on ur WAY to ISB or any other B school u choose..

pamoli01,
You can find about the various costs associated with studying at ISB in their website: Programme Expenses, Full Time Post Graduate Programme in Management - Indian School of Business (ISB)

You can also find the admissions criteria at Selection Criteria

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 13-03-2008, 10:25 PM

Hi all,

I have been regularly following this thread for a while now and have noticed that most the replies pertain to "What are my chances of getting at ISB". Including me, many of us have asked this question.
Now for the ones who got their answers and are still interested in going ahead, i was wondering if it would be a good idea to pursue a slightly different route and discuss other questions like : 'How to make our application stand out from the rest?' . There is nothing we can change about the scores that we have (10th, 12th, undergrad...) nor our work experience. But what we CAN do is package our application in such a way that it demands attention.(By which i DO NOT mean that we should give our physical application package a shiny coat).
My main concerns were regarding: typically what would a B- school interviewer want to see in a reco letter and SOP(statement of purpose). And what attitude and characterization do they want to see when they read our essays.
anyone any idea? or does everything i have asked sound like Greek and Latin?
