Hi

I need some help in hoe to approach second essay question in application;

You are contesting the election to be the President of the ISB Student Body. Write a speech you will deliver to the student body on why they should elect you as the President? (300 words max)
Should I state my goal plan for improving student life at ISb ,initiatives that I would take OR should I highlight my past leadership experience .

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks

b) Does ISB allow changing Interview scheduling from a India city based personal interview to a Telephonic interview at an international site. My issue is that there is a good chance that i will be out of the country for 6 to 8 months starting july. I may just be able to make it back by the Round 2 interview dates, but i am not sure.

c) Personal interview vs telephonic interview----I am assuming that ISB does not make any disctinction whatsoever between these two, does anyone have any stats that can reflect telephonic interview people have as much of a chance as personal interview people. Personally speaking i am always a Personal interview person, but if circumstances do not permit, then i will have no choice but to opt for a telephonic interview (Provided i am shortlisted in the first place)

Look foward to your responses.

Hi NK,

I think this are good questions for the admission committee members from ISB. At PG there is a thread where the questions are directly responded by Mr.Menon who is a senior member of the admission committee at ISB. I suggest you post your questions in that thread.

SSaka,

A bit of both, lets say 30-40% of former and 60-70% of latter.

a) If you submit before sep 15 it will be considered for R1, else it will automatically be considered for R2.

b) Yes they do, u can write to them and if they find ur case genuine they will allow you to shift.

c) there are no significant differences between the two, except that you might be able to make a better (or worser) impact when in a personal interview if u have a good body language.

Badri,

First, my profile in brief:
# Indian, Male
# 30yrs, 8.5 yrs work ex when I join next year
# Acads - avg, from NIT Nagpur (erstwhile REC Nagpur)
# Working in IT, on ERP/CRM. Will have been a Project Manager for almost 3 yrs in March 2009, PMP certification in 2007
# GMAT 740/6.0 (2008 )
# Have managed initiatives that have directly impacted the bottomline of the organization
# Have managed development of dashboard that enables the CEO to assess Sales VPs' performance (interacted with the directorate office for this)
# Have managed sunset of an organization application

Would you please share your thoughts on how competitive this might be?

More importantly, as far as EC is concerned, I am involved in activities which basically fall into giving back to society. However, all this has been in a contributor's role, not at all as a leader. How much water does it hold in your opinion?
P_Jez, u got a great profile, do apply, as far as the role goes it boils down to how you spin your story work hard on your essays i am sure you will get a call, ATB

Hi Badri,

Firstly thanks a ton for taking time out to reply to our queries. WE all appreciate it. I too have some questions and I think you are probably well placed to answer them.

My Profile :

12th - 76%
BCom - 76%

Workex :

12 months - associate in international BPO ( client - American Express )
15 months - lecturer in internationally recognized college
17 months - asst to music director ( music and sound engineering )

I am one of those guys who wanted to make a shift to finance and so I took up a job as an associate in investment servicing. Will complete 13 months in that role by Apr 2009.

Well I wont ask for a profile check here. I know you might be quite fed up of it by now. But here are my queries

1. Does ISB cover good modules for someone wanting to major in finance. At the website they say "Analytical Finance" as a specialization. I presume its good enough for a career in finance. But they dont give a further break up of the topics that will be covered in that specialization. For someone like me what are the modules available in finance that I can opt for?

Badri - Yes they do , several fin guys(alums) have told me that the profs and courses are good

there is a detailed break up of topics here - http://www.isb.edu/PGP/ElectiveCourses.Shtml

2. Could you explain the system of bidding for subjects. How does this system work. I've read that some students did not get the subjects of their choice because of this bidding system. Why is it so? I dont want to spend so much money and in the end not get the subjects of my choice.

Badri- you might not get to specialize in all the papers u want to since competition is very tight, but that doesnt mean you wont get to specialize at all in the category of your choice, you need to pick 6 papers from fin to be a fin specialist and that u can easily do.

3. Is there at all any chance of doing an internship. after the 12 month period. Will we miss out on placements if we opt to do so.

Nope, no college authorized internship, there is something called ELP that comes close. after the 12 month period(once u graduate) you can do anything u want.

4. Pls pls pls try to get this one. What is the lowest domestic and international package offered. Its something not on the website but this information will help to put the placements statistics in perspective.

Opps - Confidential !!!

5. How much will a person end up spending for this course. I am looking at an all inclusive figure. Including your laundries and weekend outings maybe. ISB website puts the figure at around 19 lakhs. Can we manage within that or are there other program related expenses we must make provision for.

Badri : My best guess is that if you are frugal it should cost u abt 19L or less. The expense can go up if u take some programs like exchange (where you go abroad for 2-3 months) otherwise u should be able to sustain within 19-20 L

Looking forward to your reply,

thanks,

Jose.
