Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 20-06-2008, 01:31 PM

Giri, A friend of mine had written to ISB regarding the same and he had a response that minimum 2 years of work ex is required and hence wanted to clarify.

Regarding my profile..here it goes

10th - 72.4%
12th - 82.8%
B.com 2005 - 61% (University of Delhi)
Chartered Accountancy - 2007 (cleared all levels in the first go)

Three years internship for CA course done with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Mumbai in Financial Services Audit practise.

Currently working with ITC limited as Assistant Project Controller in a Hotel Project (Assistant Manager Finance acc to ITC grading). The total workex till date is 8 months excluding the internship.

Extra Curriculars

Represented college in Inter-college tournament organised by University in table tennis and badminton
Organised events at PwC
Organised the annual fest at RVG hostel

Though i dont have cerificates for any of the above.

I am giving CAT this year and also looking forward to apply to ISB, My workex will be around 17 months till March 2009.

Suggest whether i shall take GMAT this year and apply or wait for another year.

Regards,

Kartik

My personal opinion will be to wait for another year before applying to ISB. One your work exp is on the lower side and the admissions process to ISB is quite a task apart from GMAT prep. So IMO, one cant do justice to both GMAT/ISB app and CAT during the same time given that the timelines are similar. (Ofcourse there might be someone who has super aptitude with killer profile who can manage both, but I think it would not apply to most of us ;-))

Hey Guys,

Hope all's well, I 'd like a profile check pls (i know another one..but pls oblidge)

I am an Electronics engineer from an REC, graduated in the year 2003 with close to 68% (topper would be around 76%). Have been working since then in Embedded Systems, first for a manufacturing company then for an engineering services company. Have been promoted to project leadership recently and along with all of that also am looking after business development activities (these are all recent developments), apart from this have the usual programing exp and international experience as well. As for extra activities, was actively involved in sports, represented college in cricket, was the tennis team captaion. During work time, have been actively involved with customer visits, demos, even worked on roadshows(international level).

Gave GMAT recently, and scored 710 (47 quant(was expecting around 49) , 40 verbal and 5.5 AWA).

In light of all of the above, do you think i should be reattempting GMAT or with 5 years of experience and all of the varied experiences i have gained especially during work i should go ahead and project my case to the best of my ability in the essays and interview if it happens.

Look foward to hearing the feedback from the Class of 2009 guys.

Cheers
NK

IMPORTANT:
I was talking to Mr. Srinath (Admissions Manager at ISB) and he wanted me to put in a note saying that "ISB prefers" the online format to the offline format for the recommendations.

Hope this helped. ATB.
Thanks Sabtha, any idea what's the word limit?

Dear NK,
710 is not a bad score for a person with background like yours. You should have a good chance of making it this year provided you come up with good essays and recommendations. Unless there are other reasons, I would apply if I were you.

If you are doing the reco offline, there is a standard format that you can download. Below every question is a box where your evaluators can fill their views. So one can roughly write around 100 words for each question. However, I am not sure about the word limit in case of online option.

Hello ,

I have a annoying query about the application process.
Is there any harm in opening the application very early and submitting it very late ?

Does the adcom weighs the time taken to submit the application ?
suppose i take too much time, wud my application be weaker considering the fact that the time taken is too high ?

appreciate any comments.

regards,
NEo

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 21-06-2008, 09:25 PM

Hi Guys,

Its a wonderful thread u have going on here. I would also like to get ur comments on my profile and the things that I should focus on ..

Exp - 9 years in TelecomSW. Have led teams of few people.
International - 46 months (and counting) in US and EU.
Academics = 12th 87.6% (school topper) Engg from REC jaipur 78%(again topper)

Extra curricular - Quizzing , Dramatics during school, college and job

GMAT - 760 (Q49 V44) AWA - waiting
Goals - Well changing industry is one option (am keen towards finance). but I know it may not be feasible as it is a 1 year course. So the other option is staying in the same industry and then enterpreneurship.

Now I am still not very clear about the points to focus on in my essays ..academics or job exp or future goals .. Any inputs would be welcome

Hi All,
Thanks a lot for all the information u r posting, GR8 job guys!

I have heard that ISB did not allow students with Engg. backgrounds to sit for Fin (I bank) placements laat year. Is this true? If so it would be a real dampener. Please let us know!
