thamizhosai

-am sorry I havent quite understood ur name yet -

I read ur blog's blogs -- I have read so many of the ISB blogs that it is pretty insane. But somehow I hadnt read the 2001 batch blog. U know having gotten an admit you constantly need to feed ur own self with positive info/news about ISB. Why? I dont know - but I guess u just get used to anything you get. So well the whole point of this email is just to thank you for posting the blogs - and all the best for your interview (what makes me say you will be interviewed ? well...)

Vivek,
"zh" in thamizhosai has to be pronounces as "L" in a special way, and its special letter in tamil language. infact the "L" in tamil is to be pronounced that way. it means sound of tamil. im actively involved in tamil litterature and author of a poetry book. I dont want to sound as a language chauvanist, but keeping tamil in the name is very very common in tamilnadu. at the time of registration no other name occured so suddenly than this one. even my first email id is thamizhosai with usa.net,which is lost now. so, thats about thamizhosai.

about the blog: u r welcome, credit for 2001 alum post goes someone else too and i dont remember who or where it is from.

i understand the desire to know more positive things about us and ours. even i share that desire. isb is ur school now, and my aspiration yet. so for both of us it's "ours".

though i have a poor gmat, im confident about iv call cos i strongly feel i have demonstrated many qualities ISB is looking for since my childhood. may be i can share more on this once we get this interview milestone is crossed.(or may be in ISB) but again we all hope for the best when we venture in to something. Aren't we?

Regards

Here is the original email I posted on my blog in august 2007:

Progress in Life: Vintage ISB email: Experience from the initial days

I also received it somewhere, I don't remember where now. But it's a very good read. That's why I named it "vintage"

Cheers,

Teacher,

Ur status - "ISB - finally".......might I have had something to do with it?

Thamizhosai,

Poor gmat ?? What is the score? Dont tell me it's a 680 and u calling it a poor score

----------BTW--------
I was just wondering - in India we are so obsessed by the idea of going to a b-school, people often never stop to think why we want to get in. This probably hits you in a miniscule manner when you get that highly coveted interview invite. But then you quickly start focusing on "Why MBA" and "What post MBA". I believe this is where your plan B shapes up - the safety net / "logical" career choice- that has the backup of your current work ex and the abilities you have demonstrated. When you actually take the courses and go through the LDP etc you better realise what yu could excel at, what excites you - stuff like financial modelling maaybe, mayb marketing , maybe stocks -- and then comes the next term and you have a new passion -- and that is when it hits you -- All of these MBA courses are fascinating -- what was I doing writing software? Perhaps I was built for business - no wonder I could never be passionate about the FACTORY FRAMEWORK for Object Oriented Programming. It is the economics of the factory that excite me - ISB is where I belong. You dont have to know why you need an MBA - but it helps to have thought about it. It is complicated to try and answer how exactly it does help - but it gives the AdCom the assurance that you have atleast thought of why you want to pursue it.

Why am I writing this? I have no idea - but I know this should be a blog and not a lost PG post - but am lazy.

Nice thoughts...however those questions are asked to gauge what the candidate knows about the institute and what he expects from the institute..so a mismatch in the expectation levels of the candidate can be gauged at the iview stage...and hence the question is asked during the iview...and believe me not all courses are fascinating and sometimes even after an MBA you are left deciding as to what excites u...the money or the job
