Just out of curiosity, how many guys were there at the Mumbai meet ? Mumbai has been less vocal as a group on PG than, say, Hyderabad/Bangalore. I thought I read your mail on Yahoo saying that it took 4 hrs for one-line intros ?! That's a _LOT_ of people
Cheers

rsb1982,
Hope to see you in the next mumbai meet, assuming you don't join UMich instead! :-)

For R2 aspirants -
04-12-2008, 01:33 PM
To all R2 aspirants, my suggestions are:
1. The interview won't take place for another month or so. Take the next 10-14 days off and not think about ISB at all and don't visit these forums. It's very imp to get your mind fresh so that your "subconscious" can be prepared for the next "battle"
2. After 10-14 days, come back on these forums and spend 1-2 hrs every day reading the interview experiences on the "ISB 2009 aspirants" thread. Yes, it is 600+ pages long, but
- You could easily do a smart search for "interview" within the thread. There are 50-100 interview experiences posted here.
- If you're really committed to being thoroughly prepared for ISB and doing well there, 600+ pages is nothing.
- There is a wealth of information in that forum that you just have to find. The signal-to-noise ratio is around 20% but 20% of 600 pages means ~120 pages of golden tips.
3. After 10-14 days, start reading the newspapers thoroughly from cover to cover. Spend a lot of time on international news websites like nytimes.com, cnn.com, msnbc.com, bbc.co.uk. Also, spend some time on pakistani newspaper sites like www.dawn.com. A lot of you might be asked questions on the current situation and you'll be expected to give a knowledgeable & balanced answer in the manner of a future leader.
4. Above all - please STOP asking people to rate your profile! It does you no good whatsoever. If your profile sucks, no one will bluntly tell you on PG. Even more importantly, if you're asking people to rate your profile, it suggests that you haven't understood the application and selection process at all... which says something about your chances (sorry to be so blunt)
It is up to *you* to market and present yourself and the story of your life to the adcom, no one else can give you suggestions or shortcuts on how to do so. I personally approached the application and the interview with the thought that I need to somehow convince the adcom that I'm a mature, intelligent, well-balanced person, with the strength of character to overcome difficulties (gave examples) and who learns from his mistakes (agn give examples). This, in my opinion, is the kind of stuff the adcom's looking for, rather than data in a spreadsheet with tables like "workex", "gmat", "industry", etc.
Good luck all of you!
p.s. Sorry for the duplicate post, (I've also posted this on the ISB R2 forum) but I felt it might help someone and hence took the risk of duplicating. Mods, pls fgv.

@Shishir,
Nice post dude..
Is there a parallel R2 thread ? I have seen it mentioned in MRC's post also.
Can you send me the link ?
And doesn't it make sense to ask them to move here and ask the moderator to close that thread ?
regards,

Here's the link:
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/intern...und-2-3-a.html (ISB 2009 Round 2 & 3 Applicants)
Most of the people double post on the threads anyway. Now that the application deadline has passed, it will be advisable to drop the R2 thread.
It doesn't really matter whether questions and interview experiences are posted on the R1 thread. In fact, it will be a better resource for people apping next year.

I concur wholeheartedly. During the apping process, I finally came to understand the cryptic moment in the Matrix (Part 1), when Neo visits the Oracle and asks if he's the ONE. The Oracle in all her knowledge, points him to a latin proverb - Know thyself.
The same holds true for ISB applicants. They hold the key themselves. Fellow PGs will obviously draw on the same resources to which you have access in the public domain. What's the point of asking others, when you can get the answers yourself ?
If you trawl through the rate-my-chances post, you'll see that the only consistent theme is "the whole package matters". If that's the case, how can PGs offer you a relevant opinion without (a) reading your essays/app and (b) knowing the inner workings of the ad-com ?
I used to believe that IT/770/4.5 yrs used to enough to define my "profile". Now, I don't think a 2 page essay can do justice to what one brings to the table.
So do yourselves a favor and stop asking about your chances before, during or after the interviews. It will lead to unnecessary anxiety that I'm sure you all can do without. Your job ended the moment you clicked on submit, let the ad-com do theirs now !!
Wishing all the R2 junta the very best of luck

Agreed. Being R2 aspirants, the worst that we can do is to ponder over how we are positioned vis-a-vis others.. Dont think that is going to lead us anywhere..
More importantly, what is needed at this hour is what we as individuals have to offer. Now I agree that the answer is so point blank that it sometimes escapes our mortal minds .. At the end of the day how we are is what we are and irrespective of a million guys whose 'profiles' could be supposedly better, if we can prove to the adcom that we are 'good enough', thats all that matters.
I come to the table with one of the lowest gmat scores (relatively).. There are many people who wrote me off and implicitly said that "Dude.. F*&^ O@#".. There is a high probability that I might not make it.. But so could be the case with anybody else..
Therefore my motto for the next one month is the proverbial saying, "Man mein hai Vishwas"!!! ..
So guys.. Lets do it! :snipersm:
