aapne essay 300 words mein hi likha hai? You definitely have the highest average-words-per-post..........
BTW, For the 20th Nov deadline thing ---- If they disclose(d) the result earlier than they said they would, some candidates might be in a spot, their calculations for acceptance fees across colleges might go for a toss.
So , perhaps a good thing sticking to the original deadline ( for those lucky people who are in a position of a CHOICE between ISB and instis of similar repute). Oh but what if I had to, say ,deposit my NYU (similarly reputed school) acceptance money by 19th Nov.
perhaps ISB should announce the results tmrw but give an acceptance deadline of [20th Nov + 15 days] 5th December
--
5) How much time do I have to accept or decline an admission offer? The ISB should receive your acceptance decision within 15 days from the date of the admission offer along with the admission fee.

So assume same or more for 2010, so=120
US H1B quota likely (even with Obama)=100,000
House Republicans Move To Increase H1B Visa Quota
Plus business visas etc.
Doesn't seem to be too much of a risk.
Of course, this year's ISB placements will tell the real story
Cheerio
vsriv,
Still not convinced...
(Pls do note that I was only responding to your specific example)
Most common pitfalls when we start looking at math and numbers is that we tend to ignore the number of variables involved -- or -- in other words dimensionality
Does it look off topic ? Let me relate...
There are lot of dimensions that you seem to be ignoring in your analysis - Total International offers to placements in U.S;
- VISA restrictions in other countries to that in U.S
- People placed in U.S -- which industries and what's their background
- Mode of operation of strategy consulting companies McKinsey
Only 27 offers from U.S; Mostly from IT companies for Business development roles; few in finance companies; some of these candidates have H1B earlier itself; Do a bit of research on LinkedIn and analyse the trends
International placements in consulting sector at ISB have been primarily for Middle east, South-east Asia, Europe and Australia..
Consulting companies work on country/Office basis; recruitment is done for a particular office -- interviewed by those people; strategy consulting is mostly done on customer site; use of B1 Visas is not the norm for these projects and would not be taken into consideration for HR planning;
Current H1B limit is 65000 and with the lottery system, the probability is less than 0.35. Candidates doing their higher studies in USA, without a valid work permit are also feeling the pinch occassionally. Note, that they have 4 opportunities.
VISA cap will be increased to 100000. Even if it is done, Is a very small relief.. Note that this was being discussed for quite some time now. Obama has voiced his support. However, if I remember it right, he has voted in favor of reducing VISAS from 195000 to 65000 earlier. Remember, he is a democrat.
Would a strategy consulting firm -- which needs to be close to the top management of the customer --make the kind of trade-off cited by you, in anticipation of a law (passing of which is not certain)

As pointed out the international offers are mostly non-US. I attended an ISB info session in Delhi this yr, and Mr. Menon (ISB) pointed out that they would be focusing on middle-east/asia pac/aus markets for int'l placements. He cited an example of an alum who got a US offer, but had to stay put in India for 2 yrs before getting an H1B. Infact, some of my classmates frm undergrad college had int'l offers in US, but cudn't get H1B.. and ended up working in back-offices in India or heading to london/HK offices of the same company...
As a side note, if u r specefically targetting US jobs.. u wud be better off getting an MBA from US (even a top 20-25 us skool wud open more opportunities for u in US as compared to ISB)..
The MBA Saga continues...
GMAT 2008 - Q50 V47 - 780
Cat 2008 - 99.70%ile LKI calls.. Convert - IK
Cat 2006 - 99.79 %ile LI calls .. skipped GD/PI
Cat 2005 - 99.68 %ile LACKI calls .. no converts

Re: Survey Results for Internatioal ISB Aspirants -
18-11-2008, 11:04 PM
From the 82 responses, a couple of obvious observations
* The international applicants have average work experience of 5 years. There are a lot of candidates with over 7 years of work experience, who will be able to enrich the class discussions with their experiences.
* 42% of the respondents have not applied elsewhere. They were dedicated enough to give the GMAT just to be eligible at ISB.
* An overwhelming number of international applicants want to work in India after their MBA. This is reverse brain drain at its finest
* Contrary to popular perception, over half of the international applicants come from non IT industries.
*A third of the applicants who took the survey would not re-apply next year.
Best wishes to all candidates (International and Indian).
My profile :-
* 3.5 years work ex in the US at a world famous financial tech co (non IT)
* Prefer to work in India post MBA.
* Interview experience was below expectations :(
* And I hope to re-apply again next year

Further analysis is strongly encouraged - especially by international candidates who are taking a lunch break in the US

Hey All Puys,
News here is that a group of ISB Alums launched a new site today
http://www.goisb.com
Will be really helpfull for R2 guys and ppl preparing for the next batches ...suggests everything from GMAT preparation to essay writing. People who get thru R1 can really discuss here about bank loans, laptops etc. with ISB alums from 2006-08 batches.
Also, apart from Alums even the adcom is participating here officially replying to the queries.
A great non-profit initiative by ISB Alums, All the best surfing ...

Excuse me while I hurl...
Where did you read/come to know that this website is launched by ISB alumni?
"Will be really helpfull for R2 guys and ppl preparing for the next batches..."
"A great non-profit initiative by ISB Alums..."
What's the source of above information? If at all, the alumni behind this website has to be the same alumni that those essay-'writing' service providers peddle all over. In other words, nobody knows who this alumni is.
Questions:
1. Can you or anyone here find any information about who are the 'actual' guys behind this website? Dammitt, even their 'Contact us' page has nothing but a web form, and there's no About page.
2. 'Ads from Google'- Fine, if we can't find another way to make money, we'll run a scam website and profit from Google ads. Dude, this is the lousiest way to make pennies off the Internet, when did ISB alumni had to resort to such tricks? Can't they even find a simple sales job at the local credit card company which would pay them many thousand bucks over?
3. How are you related to Raghvendra/Rangnath?
Guys, sorry to poop the spammer's party- but this site is at best a wannabe pagalguy for ISB, and at worst a hilarious attempt at scam. Stay away.
