I am an Analyst and have 4Yrs of IT experience in an MNC just opposite to ISB :-) and by 2009 April I will be having almost 5 yrs exp. I have presented 5 national level technical papers in my engg and even won national level awards. Have many customer appreciations under my belt and had visited UK for a reputed client and I am currently in US. I also have many extracurricular activities to my name like organizing big events in college and in my current company too..active participant in NSS, Seminars, event organizing etc.....Have worked on couple of business plans too which are ready....I am just passionate abt business and have many business ideas.......just started preparing for GMAT.....

looking at my profile, how much GMAT score would be ideal for me to get in to ISB....planning to apply in R2. How will be the chances if I apply in R2 because I do not want to hurry on things to apply for R1.

Please suggest me to move forward....thanks in advance........

Boy, am I posting on this site after a long time.

Gangs, they say R1 is better because you get some time for arranging various matters before coming to ISB. I do not think there is a difference as far as the # of offers go. Roughly half of the seats are filled up in R1 and the rest in R2. If you feel that you need more time, please do not hurry.

As far as your GMAT query goes, please refer to the numerous posts before. You simply can't tell mate. Aim for the highest and ATB.

You should probably try one of the various GMAT threads on PG where you can find more relevant information.

Hi Gangs, after analysing your profile in depth using advanced statistical techniques and our patented 'Neural network based ISB admission predictor system', we have concluded that to reach a 100% probability of admission into ISB, you will have to score exactly 776.825, in your GMAT. Any deviation of more than +/- 0.005, will bring down your admission probability to 50%.

- No one on this forum can predict your chances / GMAT scores required etc. (I can think of the 'blind-leadeth-blind' analogy)

- At best, anyone can add in a 'feel-good' factor by saying yes, yes, your profile looks good enough and if I were on the ISB adcom, I would surely offfer you a seat (unfortunately I am not on the adcom)

- You seem to have good acads, good experience, good extras, so with a good GMAT score, you should have good chances as well... (feel good now!)

* By the way, if you are interested in the 'Neural network based ISB admission predictor system', you can see and read all about it here: ISB admission predictor system

@shrvan did u try to find out from ISB why you got rejected, if yes work on what they mentioned, If not create a better application this time and spend some quality time on highlighting your strengths. I also believe that a higher gmat score would help.

Cheers,

Hi,

I ma Dipesh, having 5+ years of work ex in IT Sales( Hardware).
I have done my Diploma in electronics as well a my BE, Hoewever, I do not have acads that I can boast of.
10th Std-- 69%
Diploma -- 65%
BE (elctro) --54%

I have been in Mumbai all throughout.

Furthter I plan to take my GMAT and appear for ISB.
My Query:
  • I would like to have some tips and strategies that I can adapt for my GMAT preparation
  • What are the kind of books / literature that i should refer for GMAT.
  • Can someone shed some light as what would be the eligible score to get a call from ISB?
  • And finally, do you feel that I am eligible for ISB at all?
please revert with your view points and responses

Regards,
Dipesh

Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants - 12-05-2008, 05:59 PM

hi
I am too late to look at this thread. Thanks for starting a great thread. Really serves purpose for ISB 09 aspirants(me too one of them).
My profile:
10th: 86% (CBSE)
12th: 87% ( State Board, A.P.)
Graduation: 88%( CivilEngg., NIT, passed out in 2006)
Extra-Curriculars:
Good during school days. Much Better during Engineering. Continuing in company too.
Work-Exp:
2.5Yrs as on May 1st 2009. But, I fall in the most common category of IIM(Indian, IT, Male). Respite is the quality of work. Totally related to manufacturing, SCM, Operations.
A special thanks to vsbadri, Simz and all those who posted useful posts till now( couldnt remember their pg id's) bcos i have decided to take GMAT but nothing abt scheduling. I started going through 1st page 2 hrs back and by the time i reached this post, i booked my GMAT by end of july(seems to be the best time).
Comments on my profile are most welcome.
BTW, my serious doubt is that I want to apply for R1 which i think might end by mid-sept.
My work-exp would not even be 2 yrs by that time. Will this be an obstacle while applying for R1?

regards
mohan

Mohan,

The requirement is that you should have 2 years of exp. by April 2009 and from what you posted you will have that by then. But at the same time, I have seen Adcom Director Mr.Ranga Rao suggesting people to have a little more exp. under their belt.

At the same time you have good acads and seem to have good extra-curriculars too...so you shouldn't have a problem. Good Luck :-)

Gangs,

I hope you dont mind me replying. At first glance your profile looks thus to me

Acads :moderate
Extra currics : good
Work ex quantity : good
work ex quality : unknown

So does this mean your profile is good or bad ? Its really hard to say, but if I were to guess I would say you have a decent shot if you work your app well and score well in GMAT (again like giri put it , a good gmat score is a subjective term) but for IT and especially your company ;-) I would say a 720+ is a safe bet. That said dont be obsessed about gmat, ISB looks at various factors and not GMAT alone.

ATb,

For GMAT queries pls refer GMAT related threads in PG.
What is a good GMAT is highly relative? You can make it with a 600+ if you application is strong in other aspects. And you might not make it with 730 if your application is very bad in all fields except gmat. All I can say is the class GMAT average in 2009 is 714. So a higher gmat is always good.

Are u eligible for ISB at all ? again relative man, there are n number of factors that are considered, the only way you can know for sure is to apply and see what ISB thinks about you.

Cheers,
