Hi Vivek,
i am not the right person to tell you but ofcourse after having such a good score you alwayz can think of applying..2 years is minimum elgibilty..i hope u know means ur eligible now..so it will alldepend on ur application..2+ is slightly on lower side n companies do prefer ppl doing 1 year mba having bulk exp..could be anything..i suppose..any how..
u shuld plzn that u got a great score..u can think WHen ,WHy, MBA means when is the right time doing it ..ie..(ADDING A VALUE-1 YEAR mba)..
& dude correct me if iam wrong..even if u apply at ISB with 2years workex n not able to make it with 2+ years..THIN K "where wuld u be"..atleast at the same position happy njoying seeing at ur scoreswaiting for future n right time to apply..and nothing more like it if things turn up and u this year itself "WHERE WULD u B" -> Isb Hydrabad..so dude just atelast Try wat u feel n think and plan it accordingly..No wonders ppl have done it eearlier with 1.5 montsh too beofre..so u new ver know..and even if one not able atleast u can sit back relaxing to do it agin next year..atleast ur at the same position with ur scores in tact with u only..no1 is taking atht away from u..is it..hey i like to take ur scores too next year when il give me GMAt ..would u share it with me..hehe..[:P]..njoy..
So atelast KEEP Trying..
Cheers,
Abhishek..
Bless ya..

@Vivek,
Thanks for the wishes, Yes there a quite a few folks with less than 24 months experience, but they have wonderful achievements to back them up. National medals in some sports, Own entrepreneurial venture that makes a few crores. So as long as you have some good achievements in your kitty you can apply . I see that you have a great gmat so if you have rich experience and/or some good achievements you are good to go.
Now I know "rich" and "achievements" are subjective but then I really cant quantify them , also i dont see what you stand to lose if u apply, so go ahead prepare a good application.
Cheers,

@ abhishek.205
1) A one year mba or two years is very personal(subjective) decision of the person applying, i never wanted to do a 2yr mba. So cant really comment on that, As far as making the profile different from the large application pool, I understand its difficult but then you got to do it, the school cant select every one who applies and those who want an admit have to distinguish themselves.
Think of all that you have achieved, your success stories at office, your social work like NGOs (pls do add this for the sake of adding , you will get caught in the interview if not in the application). All that said in a way ISB selects you for the success that you have achieved over the years and hence it will be difficult to build a good application overnight.
2) But for Ibanking ISB is very very good for everything else :-) (my opinion here can be very biased)
3) People who want to specialize in finance and or join IBanks leave ISB and join IIM A,B,C which is quite obvious since in a 2yr course u get the opportunity to intern.(most ibanks require u to intern with them)
4) Working for a consulting firm pre mba is a good idea, the experience can help you during your mba too. I dont think IT ERP consulting is quite the same as mgmt or strategy consulting .
cheers,

Hello everyone,
I'm also aspiring for ISB 2009, along with XL GMP and IIMA PGMX.
My profile:
- B.Tech, >75% in 10th, 12th and B.Tech.
- 10 yrs in IT (top 3 in India), 5yrs of International Exp (USA)
- Current role: Program and Account Mgmt.
- PMI certified (PMP)
- Awards for Proj Mgmt, MVP
- GMAT: 690/ AWA 4
Is 690 good enough? Also, I'm worried about my AWA.
If required, I'm open to retake GMAT. Don't want my score to be a disadvantage!
Please suggest.
Regards.

@ ambahad
It would be very difficult to predict if your score is good enough or not, since score is only one part of the application. But that said I strongly recommend taking the test again(if you can) and trying for a score of 720+(The IT GMAT Avg here is very high) and yes do apply in R1 for ISB.
cheers,

Hi all,
Well jus a few question to get me outta the dilemma to all the expaerts out there:
1)Apart from ISB,SP jain, IIMs, TAPMI,GLIM do wehave other prominent indian b-schools which accept GMAT for their 1 yr MBA ?
2)Say I chose college X and the application date for which would commence on 1st june, when do u think is the right time for me to give the test so that my scores reach on time.. In other words would I have score generated instantly after I give the test n would be dispatched for processing to the respective b-schools [excuse my ignorance!! ??:]?
3)I am currenly working for a top pharma MNC as an engg mgr for the last 2.5 yrs and I can set aside max 2 hrs everyday for my preps!! do u think 3 months @ 2 hrs/day is sufficient. ofcourse, did give CAT 2007 which bombed big time as I couldnt squeeze ou time :icon_cry:
4)How are the job propsects for 1 yr MBA/ Ex-MBA as compared to the 2 yr MBA?
[I know I should've done a lil research myself wit the previous posts, but i couldnt get tthe answers to my query with whatever lil search I did ]
5)Is it necessary to regist myself in MBA.com before i give gmat?
So muh for now, all the very best for all th 2008 GMAT takers out here!!
|
@ gowrishrai
you are kinda digressing from the main agenda of this thread but yet my 2c.
1) dunno for sure, but heard IMT does and XLRI has an one yr programme too.
2) I applied to only one school ISB, so can answer only for the same, for ISB if the last date for application is Sep 15th you can take your GMAT on sep 14th. (but pls dont do that give yourself at least 15 days.)
3) I prepared for about 60 hrs and scored 730, but then again it depends on individual capabilities. Systematic, sincere practice for 2hrs a day for 2 months is much more than enough.
4) Job Prospects are wonderful at ISB.
5) I think yes.
Cheers,

@abishek
you can read all about my gmat experience here
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/gmat-a...mat-score.html (What is my gmat score?)
Consulting companies send out a call for interview if one of the following traits is rated high and the remaining are rated medium or above.
a) Acads
b) Extra currics
c) Co currics
d) Experience
sometimes B and C are merged together.
I dont mean to demotivate you but if one of ur traits is rated low then you will need one of the other to be rated extraordinary, there is no other way out.
That said Consulting is not everything , play the game according to your strengths and not against your weakness.
I have no knowledge about SAP consulting so cant comment, i guess you would be better of talking to someone in consulting domain than to me.
