Second of all - But mate i disagree with u on your advice to imphal. Imphal and other aspirants, The R2 typically has more applications coming into ISB than R1 so its more like fighting for 230 seats among 5000 application vs fighting for 230 seats among 3000 applications. I am not sure about the exact figures but am convinced that R1 makes it a lot easier to get an interview call than R2.
But yes that said do apply only when well prepared. For those who have the time and are really serious about giving their best shot, I would recommend GMAT in August, essays and application till sep 1st, review and correction till sep 10, submission and prayers from sep 14 :-)

Hello Badri, Thank you for stepping into the forum, would help us all a lot to have a current student like you to guide us with any queries we may have along this journey.
I haven't advised Imphal to apply in R1 or R2, just said 'apply when ready'. Agree with you on the number of applicants being higher in R2 than in R1 (I mentioned abt that in my post too). If the seat allocation numbers are 50% in each round, then you are right about R1 giving applicants a better prospect than R2.
However if the trend is that R1 usually has 40% of the total applicants for the year and R2 has 60% and if the adcom has set a seat allocation break-up in the same ratio, i.e. 40% selected from R1 and 60% from R2, then the applicant to selected ratio will remain the same for each round ?
Anyway, probably no point in discussing this any further unless we have access to the exact numbers (applicants & selectees) from each round to calculate the %age etc and also an inside track into the adcoms selection strategy for the year etc. Also, as I mentioned, it is not only the number of applicants, but also the quality of applicants in each round which also matters...
Last year I cut things a little too close, did not have enough time for GMAT prep thanks to some official assignments, but just to make it to the R1 cut-off, I scheduled the GMAT a couple of days before the app-cut off and applied with the mediocre score, which I was not happy with. Though the rest of my app was probably decent, my GMAT scores nixed my chances. Since we cannot reapply during the same year for another round, the journey for the year was over.
Looking back, if I had let R1 pass, taken GMAT a couple of months later in time for R2, I would have applied with higher GMAT scores and my overall app would have been better and so would my chances...? So irrespective of rounds, would still say "apply when ready"... and dont rush into it.
Anyways, I guess the academic session must have started for you guys with the orientation week ? How's the journey been so far? Do you have a personal blog where we can read-up on your ISB experiences on a regular basis ?
