Hi

I had a query. Request someone to please clarify -

If the applicant is not in India at the time of the interview, assuming that the applicant is selected, then is the applicant considered as an International applicant ?

Nope.

International applicants = Non Indian passport holders.

Thought of sharing this with you all. Not a breaking news as such, but seems like a change in the admission schedule compared to last yr. The app site will open up on 1st June 2008. Further, offer date for the first round has been cited as ON or BEFORE 20th Nov 2008. I feel R1 interviews are then supposed to be wrapped up atleast a week before that.

ppl, u can confirm the dates and other info from the official ISB website..

This topic/question has been discussed, debated, analyzed etc. etc. last year, the years before that and will be posted again and again on the forum this year too...

There were no convincing conclusions or answers last year and I don't expect anything this year either.

I remember reading somewhere that the ratio of R1:R2 applicants for ISB is around 40:60.

To evaluate whether R1 is better or R2 is better, you will need to have access to the 'applicants to accepted' ratios for each round as well... but that will not help too much either, because it is not the number of applicants, but the quality of applicants which counts in each round and the applied:admitted ratios for each round may also change from year to year.

To cut the story short, this is from the ISB FAQs page:
Q: How many applicants are called for interview in Round-1 & Round-2 and how many selected?
A: There is no fixed percentage of students being called by the ISB either for interviews or for admission.

So I would say... apply when you are ready
First of all - Expedite - great job!!!

Second of all - But mate i disagree with u on your advice to imphal. Imphal and other aspirants, The R2 typically has more applications coming into ISB than R1 so its more like fighting for 230 seats among 5000 application vs fighting for 230 seats among 3000 applications. I am not sure about the exact figures but am convinced that R1 makes it a lot easier to get an interview call than R2.

But yes that said do apply only when well prepared. For those who have the time and are really serious about giving their best shot, I would recommend GMAT in August, essays and application till sep 1st, review and correction till sep 10, submission and prayers from sep 14 :-)

Hi Friends,

Profile:
Class X - 85%(CBSE)
Class XII - 87.4%(CBSE)
B.E(Electronics and Telecomm) - 74.9% (Amravati University)

Work Ex: Till date 53 Months in IT (TCS)
International Experience : 8 Months

Co Curriculars:

Till School Level - Debates,Elocutions,Quizzes, sports etc
College Level :  None (Perhaps the worst part of my profile)
After College: Worked for a NGO for 3 months
Currently a part of a NGO initiated by 3 of our friends

Please can anyone of you advise what are the selection chances normally in R1 and R2? How important is AWA score?

Thanks
Souvick
Hi Souvick,

No one , no one will be able to predict your chances of admit but here is what i can tell you.

You seem to have a good experience. Since you are from IT i did suggest you try and get a good GMAT score, 4.5+ AWA should be good enough. I strongly recommend applying in R1.

Hi Everyone,

I plan to appear for my GMAT in August'08 ; what would be the right time to apply for ISB ?
My brief profile :

Qualifications: B.E. (Computer Engg) - 69.44% (First Class with Distinction)
Work Experience: 3 Yrs ; IT Industry

Would I be eligible for being considered @ ISB ? I know the score is yet to come and am preparing with all gusto .... just needed to know what's it gonna be like ; 'Coz so far I've been in a reckless and more often than not vain pursuit of the CAT (last %tile = 97.5) ..... Hence my doubt!

Please do pour in with your suggestions and advice.

Cheers!!
Destined2xl,

Admit to ISB needs way more than acads, a good gmat score and a well made application should definitely get you an interview call.

Hi,

My GMAT is 690 with AWA = 4.
Can anyone let me know how much weightage ISB gives to the AWA score?

I'm thinking of taking GMAT again anyway. Just want to find out if AWA is a 'make or break' for ISB.

Thanks.

Ambahad,

I don't think AWA is "The Criteria" for ISB but at the same time, somebody mentioned that the Adcom gave him a feedback to improve his AWA. Just my two cents.

Goodluck with GMAT!!!

Hello Badri, Thank you for stepping into the forum, would help us all a lot to have a current student like you to guide us with any queries we may have along this journey.

I haven't advised Imphal to apply in R1 or R2, just said 'apply when ready'. Agree with you on the number of applicants being higher in R2 than in R1 (I mentioned abt that in my post too). If the seat allocation numbers are 50% in each round, then you are right about R1 giving applicants a better prospect than R2.

However if the trend is that R1 usually has 40% of the total applicants for the year and R2 has 60% and if the adcom has set a seat allocation break-up in the same ratio, i.e. 40% selected from R1 and 60% from R2, then the applicant to selected ratio will remain the same for each round ?

Anyway, probably no point in discussing this any further unless we have access to the exact numbers (applicants & selectees) from each round to calculate the %age etc and also an inside track into the adcoms selection strategy for the year etc. Also, as I mentioned, it is not only the number of applicants, but also the quality of applicants in each round which also matters...

Last year I cut things a little too close, did not have enough time for GMAT prep thanks to some official assignments, but just to make it to the R1 cut-off, I scheduled the GMAT a couple of days before the app-cut off and applied with the mediocre score, which I was not happy with. Though the rest of my app was probably decent, my GMAT scores nixed my chances. Since we cannot reapply during the same year for another round, the journey for the year was over.

Looking back, if I had let R1 pass, taken GMAT a couple of months later in time for R2, I would have applied with higher GMAT scores and my overall app would have been better and so would my chances...? So irrespective of rounds, would still say "apply when ready"... and dont rush into it.

Anyways, I guess the academic session must have started for you guys with the orientation week ? How's the journey been so far? Do you have a personal blog where we can read-up on your ISB experiences on a regular basis ?
