Thanks Vision_MBA. I just went through the admissions pre-requisite and it said that one needs to have an under grad degree and 2 years of full time work ex. But I guess, if you are in some special situation, better write to ISB and get yourself clarified.

Hi,

I have a query and appreciate somebody helping me in this regard.
I've completed my Btech in 2006. I had a offer in hand before I passout.
but, there was a gap of about 6 months before I joined my job.
In the mean while, I joined our college as a member of the faculty training
students for campus selections and later teaching academic subjects for about
6 months. Now, my question is, can I use that teaching exp 4 applying to ISB?
Will they consider it? How do i need to explain it?

hi there..

count me in too..for the class of '10

as far my profile goes:

Qualification: BTech (mech) -- decent Acads

Experience: Will be almost 4.5 years next April (thats when ISB classes commence). Am into Automotive engineering services. Plus 6 months overseas experience (3 months in Italy n 3 in France - i was all alone in remote italian n french villages, dunno if that helps ??

Extra-Curriculars: A few in college(paper presentations, music competitions, quizzes etc), apart from that a member of office cricket team n yeah last but not the least am the Vice-President of my college Alumni Association.

Prep: I have gone through a thorough prep cycle for GMAT once.. i also had taken a date but had to get it cancelled (:() as i had to go to Italy n then to France. But not in touch with the prep stuff since almost a year now. So have to start all over again.

thats all i can think of now.. So ppl do comment on my chances of getting thru. of course i have to cross the GMAT hurdle first

The ISB admission pre-requisites page says "2 years full-time work experience after graduation". If your stint as a faculty member of your college after graduation was full-time, I think it should be acceptable. Would suggest you to check with the ISB adcom for confirmation. You may be asked to subtantiate the experience with either the offer letter or experience certificate.

:-) Have walked this path before... made it till the interview round last year, will reapply this year... having seen the range of applicants last year, many of the profiles I thought were 'sureshot' got dinged and some guys / girls who thought they stood no chance, made it into ISB... so there is no "Profile meter" against which you can check and conclude whether you make the cut or not.

Every other post seems to be from someone who wants an 'evaluation' of their profile or maybe just a 'reassurance' from others that they are Bschool material...

Your application to ISB or for any other Bschool, is the sum total of your acads, experience, job-profile, essays, recos, GMAT score, interview and the all important 'x' factor i.e.how your application pack shapes up as a whole and how it is perceived by the adcom.

Since the adcom will be evaluating your application not only on its own merits, but also against the background of all the other applicants in your round, factor in the number of applicants, their backgrounds and the quality of their apps... all in all, just too many variables in the equation. So just give GMAT your best shot, take your time in crafting your application and essays and submit away...

Right time for GMAT, well, since ISB app process is 100% online, you can take your GMAT anyday upto the app cut-off date and submit the unoffcial scores; if you want to apply in R1 - GMAT by September 15, 2008 if R2, GMAT by December 1, 2008.

IMHO, have atleast a 1 week buffer between your GMAT date & the cut-off dates for the college you are applying to.

For GMAT prep related info, just browse thru the threads on this section...

Hi,

ISB has 2 rounds of application: R1 ending 15th September and R2 ending 1st December. Is a there any significant advantage of applying in R1?

Thanks

This topic/question has been discussed, debated, analyzed etc. etc. last year, the years before that and will be posted again and again on the forum this year too...

There were no convincing conclusions or answers last year and I don't expect anything this year either.

I remember reading somewhere that the ratio of R1:R2 applicants for ISB is around 40:60.

To evaluate whether R1 is better or R2 is better, you will need to have access to the 'applicants to accepted' ratios for each round as well... but that will not help too much either, because it is not the number of applicants, but the quality of applicants which counts in each round and the applied:admitted ratios for each round may also change from year to year.

To cut the story short, this is from the ISB FAQs page:
Q: How many applicants are called for interview in Round-1 & Round-2 and how many selected?
A: There is no fixed percentage of students being called by the ISB either for interviews or for admission.

So I would say... apply when you are ready :-)
