Re: ISB 2009 Aspirants -

Reality Just Hit Me Guys!!!
One of my friends going to an international B-School this year is looking for an educational loans of around 18 lakhs. Here's his calculation:
Loan Amount: 18 Lakhs
Rate of Interest: 12%
Duration: 60 months
Interest per month: 12%/12 = 1% of 18 lakhs = 18000
Principal per month: 18 Lakhs / 60 = 30000
Total EMI per month: 48000!!!
Well my friend is fine with this EMI as post MBA he will earn atleast 2 lakhs a month. I was thinking of ISB but now and not at all sure. Here's a look at the ISB placement statistics:
Total number of students participating in placements: 419
Total number of offers: 657
We see that the Offer/Student ratio is 657/419 = 1.59 only!!!
Now surely the top students per batch have more then one offer. This means that around 2/3rd of the batch had only one offer in hand!!! That really scares me coz it means that with only one offer in hand I might have to accept whatever is offered!
Another statistic is the average salary of 19 lakhs! Going by the law of averages, there will be guys with salaries much less than 19 lakhs. I have heard of some guys getting only around 11-12 lakhs. And it is but logical that guys like me with just about 2.5 years of experience will end up with those.
My cousin right now has a salary of 17 lakhs and yet his take home salary is only around 1 lakhs a month. So 12 lakhs might mean a take home salary of around 75000. If 48000 out of 75000 goes out as only Educational loan EMI, that doesn't look good to me at all. Thats leave me with only 25000 for house rental/loan and living costs!
Bye bye ISB! Doesn't look worth to me!

Not sure whether u really wanted someone to respond to this. If u are not confident of getting a higher salary, well .... then dnt take the loan for 60 months! What is there to think about it soo much And since u have 2.5 Wrk ex (Expecting you to be around 25), u have ample time to pay back. And moreover, after say 2-3 yrs post ISB, u should be able to earm muhc more than your starting sal .. (but how much more depends entirely on you .....)!

My Profile:
X - 79%
+2 - 65%
BCA - 75%
MS in SW Eng - 6.3 CGPA
Coming to my Work Ex- Have been with an IT Comp for 4 years as a part of the course mentioned above. I have been into multiple roles - Support Analyst, Module Lead, Team Lead, Quality Coordinator, Project Lead, Systems Analyst and Business Analyst. At present I am working for a consulting company as a Consultant in a particualr area.
I have been on international assignments for about 7-8 months. So that forms my Internatioanal Experience.
Coming to my extra curriculars, havent really been active in school and college. But was a part of out cultural activities group within my community and invovled in lot of social activities.
At work, invovled in orgnising lot of events and parties etc.
Addtional things --> Have done a crash course in portugese (15 days )
--> Been awarded best debutant and many other awards at work.
The biggest question I have in my mind is , Will my 4 yrs of Work-ex during study be considered by ISB? and second one is , How strong does my profile sound in your view?
Thx a lot

download GMAT prep software from their official website, Welcome to mba.com You need to register there first. Try taking a test to see your weak areas, concentrate on weak areas and strengthen your strong areas
