if the question is "what other schools you plan to apply and WHY ?" then yes we should justify.....

if the question is just "what other schools ? " then i think the answer should be specific .... justification might put you in spot....

Thanks durgesh and p_jez for your thoughts.
Btw I have applied to just IIMA PGPX apart from ISB and was not shortlisted for interview

another approach could be ....

Q : "what other schools do you plan to apply ?"
A : "depends on the result from ISB. Thats why I've applied in R1 of ISB."

Most of applicants’ goals will fall in one of the above categories. So how do we make our “Goals Story” unique…..

The key is to relate the goals with your profile…….

1.An interesting story about a consultant you interacted as a summer intern during your undergraduate…
2.You are good at managing money …… During group outings, you are the one who keeps the account…
3.How you managed the Inventory and supply chain of Hostel Mess … and how is it as compared to the inventory management of an assembly line manufacturing....
4.Fund collection of college festival …. How you went to companies and alumni to collect money….. Good example for marketing….

More Thoughts ?
I wonder whether Investment banking profiles are still lucartive... after all, people speak about the extinction of Investment banks everwhere...!!

I myself wanted to be an investment banker after completing my MBA!!

Cheers

Noel,

Investment banking will always be high paying but not it used to be till 6 months agao. Now there are only two reputed firms goldman and JP morgan and they have approval to serve as normal bank apart from investment. this means they will be eligible for US federal sanctions and will be under scrutiny. They can't take high risk for high returns as they used to take.Goldman has $20B and JP has $36 B cash reserve so they can pay high salary. The top executives will not be paid as before but the analysts or the bankers will be paid good. It's all commission based. Bring business take hepty commission.

So as long as Merger and Acquisition happens, as long as IPO comes, as long as capital rasing occurs investment banking will be there.

May be after gaining good experience in investment banking you can be a hedge fund manager. This is another lucrative ,high risk and high return area.

Its morgan stanley and not jp morgan(apart from goldman who have turned into banks). Moreover, this is going to be a test for people who mentioned interest in moving to ibanking/finance. I believe things will shift globally, having more Asian or even Indian firms being top choices in areas of M&A and capital restructuring. The pure investment banking model( as we knew it ) is dead for now, but the activities would continue for sure.

this reminds me of one of my earlier post.... how will it affect this year's number of applicants...

1. number of applicants going down as some of them will delay their application for another year becuase of the fear of lower placements
2. Number of applicants going up as more and more out of job "bankers" will be planning to go back to schools this year.
