I agree with you on most counts. The discussion quoted was on "importance of marketable CV for admission into MBA".
I was trying to explain that CV marketability should be lowered in priority.
Got it....Thanks....

New MBA schools (or schools with new courses .. IIMs) are looking for applicants with better job prospects after MBA becuase they (schools) want to improve their ranking and eventually get even better placements....

I think once they get a respectable ranking .. (in 3 to 5 years) this priority should go down ...

So IMO CV maketability is important for all schools ... but more important for new schools....

GOALS

•Management Consulting
•Investment banking
•Core Finance
•Marketing and Product Development
•General Management.

Most of applicants’ goals will fall in one of the above categories. So how do we make our “Goals Story” unique…..

The key is to relate the goals with your profile…….

1.An interesting story about a consultant you interacted as a summer intern during your undergraduate…
2.You are good at managing money …… During group outings, you are the one who keeps the account…
3.How you managed the Inventory and supply chain of Hostel Mess … and how is it as compared to the inventory management of an assembly line manufacturing....
4.Fund collection of college festival …. How you went to companies and alumni to collect money….. Good example for marketing….

More Thoughts ?

Yes, they will if they want some additional information about you on specific areas. Or, if the recommender has said that you are "excellent in every aspect" - then they will sort of interview the recommender to get the real picture.

Cheers

Any one on the forum applying to programs abroad as well...

Have you guys figured out the VISA logistics and particularly the aspects of what if you get an ISB R1-admit and then later get an admit in some IVY-league school. You will get a VISA only sometime in May and by that time you would have paid the fee and joined ISB :icon_frown:

I know that.. my question is slightly off from the topics currently being discussed and is quite premature... But then this has been bothering me for some time now :-?

Hi sarat,

Firstly, ISB will require you to pay the initial deposit, if admitted, by the 1st week of Dec in order to book your place in the Class of 2010. The deposit is INR 2,00,000.

Secondly, if you get an admit from a US school, which I presume would happen sometime in January/February, then you have two options:
1) Reject the US school admit.
2) Accept the US school admit; fore go the deposit paid at ISB and send ISB a polite mail stating that you will not be able to attend class with them.

In both cases, you wouldn't have to wait till you get your visa in May. I am not sure if one would join ISB and then drop out to go to another school. At least I wouldn't. By doing that you are not only wasting hell-a-load-of money but also depriving another person of an opportunity to go to a good school.

Therefore, it will be in your best interest to choose one of the two options above and if you choose the latter then make sure you don't screw up in the visa interview.

Cheers!

PS: Am applying to programs abroad

Well I wasn't even looking at U.S B-schools till recently... Then thought I should probably look at few as backup.. And then I found that some of the programs (MIT-LFM; Kellogg-MMM) suit my interests more than even the program in ISB...
All this in less than 2 weeks... so fickle.. I dont know what I will do in the interviews

I know there are lot of ifs and buts.. and know about the aspect of losing 2 lakhs also... I am surely not thinking of joining in and then quiting (I can't afford it myself.. 20 laks is too much)...

I have heard that VISA application will be processed only 4 months ahead of the program start.. Wanted to know if anyone knows a way out...
