Hi all ISB 2009 aspirants,
1.Do we need to send the AWA score during application or only the GMAT score for admission?
2. Also are there any advantages in applying for cycle1?
Am asking this because I am still to start prep for GMAT and am confused when to take a appointment for the same....
TIA
Cheers!!

-- AWA scores are considered but are not very important
and anything around 4.5 is a decent score.
2. Also is there any advantages in applying for the cycle1?
--People say ..The chances of getting in in cycle 1 are high when compared to cycle 2 as the number of seats left for cycle 2 are lessthan cycle 1.
There is no fixed distribution of seats in cycle 1 and cycle 2.
Am asking this because I am still to start prep for GMAT and am comfused when to take a date for it.... Better to take the GMAT as early as possible becos you have to work on your essays and recos ( which matter a lot in application ) .
TIA

Hi,
I know that this thread has had it's share of 'Can I get in with x?' type questions.
Therefore I am going to pose mine a little differently.
How important is the individual split of the verbal and math sections when evaluating the GMAT score of a candidate.
I very well realize that GMAT is one factor out of many that help a candidate gain admission but I am looking for deeper insight into this one factor.
Specifically, I have a score of 700. My math percentile however is under 80%.
Can this be grounds for rejection?
Ideally I would like to retake the GMAT and rectify this but I have time constraints because of work and would like to utilize the limited time I will have over the next few months to come up with a stellar application package as opposed to GMAT prep.
If people are of the opinion that this GMAT situation will probably lead to a ding without an interview call for me, there is no point in my applying this year. I would rather wait until next year, take the GMAT again and not present myself as someone who is reapplying.
Thoughts are much appreciated.

Hello sabthagiri, your efforts in helping out the aspirants are really commendable, I am also having two queries regarding ISB, hope u will take out some time to answer them.
1)4 year work ex including a year of training in Italy and good Italian language skills, good academics but no extra curriculars. Is this a profile worth ISB or not?
2)With this profile how much should be the GMAT score minimum and I had given GMAT in 2005, will it be Ok?
Thanks and cheers! | | | | | | | |

2. I am not sure about the seat distribution either, but this year, roughly 200 students got admitted in R1 and the rest in R2. | | | | | | | |

Thanks and cheers! | Dear Singhals,
I do not understand you when you ask "Is this a profile worth ISB or not?". If you had wanted to ask whether it is worth apping to ISB with this profile then heres my take: No profile can be given a clean chit saying one is sure to make it to the ISB with it. The opposite is also very true (no profile can be straightaway rejected). As Simz has been saying through out this thread, the overall package is what is important.
Same goes for the GMAT score also. The higher the better, but lesser scores don't necessarily mean elimination. As far as apping with a older GMAT score, though schools say that they accept GMAT scores which are upto 5 year old, I personally feel that the older the score, the lesser impressive it is, I mean a 4 month old 700 score is looked upon in a different light than a 4 year old 700. But as I said, this my personal opinion. Hope this helps.

Hi Sabthagiri,
Could you please answer my question as well?
I have one other follow up question for you too.
In your application process, were you able to gather this info about ISB:
1. Number of applications in a given year.
2. Male/Female split
2. Number of interview calls/Number of applications
3. Number of admits/interview calls
4. % of admitted students who accept the offer.
Thanks for taking the time out to do this!

Thanks a ton! | U can apply for the term of 2009-10.. If u take ur GMAT by Aug, u will be able to apply in the first round itself, the deadline for which is somewhere in Aug/ Sept..

I have one other follow up question for you too.
In your application process, were you able to gather this info about ISB:
1. Number of applications in a given year. I do not know if ISB has ever released the number of applications that they received in a particular year, but I have heard people (alums, prospects and students) saying that ISB gets 10 applications for every seat. So that roughly translates to 4K to 5K applications a year.
2. Male/Female split Last year 25% of the class were women. I expect this year too, the ratio will be similar.
2. Number of interview calls/Number of applications I remember a long (I mean really long) discussion going on in one of the other threads (Interviews and Admits, I guess) where people were trying to estimate this very ratio. But like the # of applications, there is no official number. My (rough) estimate will be around 4-5 interview calls per 10 applications.
3. Number of admits/interview calls By the same estimate that I used in the previous question, 4-5 interview calls per seat.
4. % of admitted students who accept the offer. I' ve heard that the waitlist ratio (size of the waitlist compared to class size) is around 10-15%. I remember someone once telling me that the conversion ratio from waitlist is rather small, so I guess that the acceptance ratio will be high.
Thanks for taking the time out to do this!
