He recommended me to go there but also told me that the market in UK is realy bad and dont expect that you would be made a manager above the uk nationals.....he had to come back to india immediately after MBA as its really costly to stay in UK and find jobs

I also talked to a current student who is also from IT background...he suggested that cranfield is really good for IT people and offers high quality education. He was quite positive about the job propects but at the same time was afraid because of the market scenario in Uk. The unemployment rate is record high currently in UK.........
thanks for sharing the info! Hopefully, things should improve (globally). One thing that distrubs me slightly is why haven't reputed schools like Manchester and Cranfield put up placement stats for 08 yet!

Lastly - if you don't mind, what decesion did u eventually make?

guys i feel the job market in UK also seemed to have started reviving. though people who were dropped earlier are being preferred over college passouts because of relevant exp etc..

but what i dint know is that .. are people discriminated based on nationality.. somewhr i read that one shud not think of getting a job over UK nationals. is it like that.. they prefer Uk nationals over indians, international students..

The scenario is similar if you graduate from the other good schools in the UK or US or any other country for that matter. There are aspects within the schools control - like delivering world class education - and then those where they have no say (condition of the economy).

So irrespective of the economy, choose a school which has strong foundations in place. Apart from the regular suspects like LBS, Oxbridge etc...Manchester and Cranfield are also schools you could consider.

Good luck.

Do you have a realistic shot at the top global B-schools?

Except for LSB, said and judge which are recognized globally avoid all UK schools if one wants to compete globally for jobs. In uk, other schools post mba placements maybe present but pay is less and you will alsways work under UK national no matter what your degrees, capabilities are. Always prefer isb, IIMs over other UK schools.

Folks any idea if there are ppl who have done this after a UK MBA.... work with a UK/Europe based firm which has a presence in India ... work for 2 years on the visa and then move to its India office... is that difficult... do firms recruit u in UK with a global/UK perspective or do they look at u as a local/regional/Indian candidate as well??

Yes, I have heard the same from a friend who did his MBA in Cardiff.

I feel that's not too inexplicable a fact. It's not a secret that there is a mild undercurrent of racial discontent in the UK(owing to the tremendous desi population...sad to say, but true ), and naturally it doesn't make good business sense to put any random Indian in charge of say a 100 people, unless he is extraordinarily talented.

I would daresay this would be the case in most parts of Europe.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...

Hey Buddy,
Its always safe to work in UK(even though one is from mid-tier college). My friends with IT background reaped benefits even in this down-turn, and many UK organization are open to absorb fresh MBA graduates, specially in the field of IT and Telecom.
UK is great place compared to other european nations and their colleges(top and mid-tier) are having good names in UK market.I am sure one can reap more benefits if one is free from all non-rationalistic thoughts and prejudices.
All the Best !

Cheers !
