Hi,
I am planning to do my MBA from UK. I have got into Aston and Durham. What are the prospects of these two business schools? As here the discussion revolves around the tier1 schools like LBS etc? Please reply fast as I need to send a confirmation soon.
Thanks.

There is one contrarian view:
If you are thinking short term, don't have so much of money or don't know how to fund your studies (most of the UK instns. are not offering student loans), stick to IIM/ISB. They are safer bet and invovle low investment.
In the long term, however, in my opinion, there is no match to the brand of Oxford, LBS or Cambridge ( I am at SBS) with Indian institutues. Ten years down the line (post MBA), the difference in position, responsibility, compensation, etc. gets more pronounced!

Artemov - Do you think that the last comment of urs would hold good even if a person would graduate in a downturn (like 2009 for ex) and fail to get a job in UK? What if the person had to come back to India imm. after completion of MBA...

The job prospects by any of above Indian school will be better but might be restricted to Indian sub continent......Although some schools such as SP Jain Dubai may help gain international exposure and provide oppurtunity in Singapore Dubai and other East Asian countries.....
Comon guys keep pouring ur thoughts.......

Buddy - just a personal opinion but if u ask me, any person having spent more than 2-3 yrs working shd think hard before joining schools like SP Dubai or Great Lakes Chennai.
I mean it sounds like a rational argument when one says that 10-15 yrs down the line you would be better off than you would have been had you not gone for the MBA. But more importantly, are you able to handle the situation if you graduate from these schools and can't secure a job for say 6 months..(this can happen, specifically during a downturn)...
IIM PGPX, XLRI and even SP Mumbai - I would rate these on a slightly higher pedigree - but this is again personal opinion...

First of all, this is a very engrossing thread, thanks to you all.
Which are the top five Uk Schools by global reputation in your mind? The top three are clearly LBS, Cambridge and Oxford. Which would be the next two? According to the FT rankings, Lancaster comes next but i believe Imperial College would come fourth. What do you guys feel..

Agreed, I would also place Cranfield, Manchester and Warwick above LUMS and Imperial. LUMS, Imperial and Cass would be the next tier of B Schools followed by schools like Ashridge and Aston.

I would have to agree with that ranking pattern in the UK!! To answer the thread-starter's question, If you are looking for a career/job in the UK than Cranfield would be a better choice over IIM-A, but if you are looking to work in India then hardly any other b-school (with the exception of ISB) can match IIM-A's reputation. However, if you dont care where you want to work, then make your decision based on your financial budget, what you want to take away from the program (students in Cranfield are definitely more diverse than at IIM-A but the quality of students would definitely be better at IIM-A) and your specific program needs.

Hello Friends,
I must say that this thread is of great help. Thanks for starting this.
I have got an admit from cranfield.....and i am not able to decide if I should join the program this september or i should defer the decision to join for another year. I have had a number od discussion about this with passouts of cranfield and all had there own opinion......but one thing which was common to all that the quality of education incranfield is extremely good and they rate it above any b school in india. The placements were also great before recession.....so the only thing for me to consider is should i take a risk of joining this year or not.......any opinions would be highly appreciated....
Thanks
Abhishek

confuzzed,
could you kindly share the diverse opinions expressed by the current students/ alums of Cranfield. That may be very useful to others in adding their views. It may also be useful to others who want to get a better understanding of the pros and cons.
Thanks

I talked to a cranfield passout of 2008. He is currently in india working for an IT MNC. He was of the opinion that the studies in cranfield are excellent and it is a one time opportunity to get that expierience and study there. He recommended me to go there but also told me that the market in UK is realy bad and dont expect that you would be made a manager above the uk nationals.....he had to come back to india immediately after MBA as its really costly to stay in UK and find jobs
I also talked to a current student who is also from IT background...he suggested that cranfield is really good for IT people and offers high quality education. He was quite positive about the job propects but at the same time was afraid because of the market scenario in Uk. The unemployment rate is record high currently in UK.........
