Vivek,

I think you looking at 660 + score to get into MBS. Please note that as per the current trends MBS receives a lot of applications from India. So you profile needs to be pretty decent.

I am pretty sure that as an international student you can come as a full time student only. No part time. Krishna can probably confirm that....

When you come on a student visa, you can work a maximun of 20 hours during semesters. Full time during schools holodays. Part time jobs are getting harder to find, but everyone eventually finds one. Normal pay rate is around 14-16 AUD per hour in part time jobs.

To make it more pinpointed for you, I think you cant pay your MBS fees with your part time work here. You may be able to support yourself but no fees.

Hope is answers your query.

I think Krishna has answered the first part of your question. MBS has decent reputation in India. Speccially in consulting, operations and finance.

Its tough for normal IT Indian male unless you have pretty decent profile. You will find typical MBS class to be a lot more diverse in work experience compared to IIMs or ISB.

Sam,

Without knowing you profile, Its tough to give you a concrete answer. I think if you do full time MBA from MBS and have decent work experience , you should be able to get a work visa. You would be able to get PR too. It will take time but as things stands today (immigration wise) , I would tilt more towards YES than NO.

Please note that quality and brand value of your previous experience will matter a lot. Other significant point in Australia is the way you communicate and network. There is an Australian way of it and if you can quickly learn and use it to your advantage, you wouldnt have a worry

Hi All,
MBS is a pretty big name here in Australia and i am applying for the next intake in September. I have opened a Yahoo Group dedicated for this purpose.

http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/mbs-agsm-info

login to the group and lets have some fruitful discussion out there.

Tami, mate it will be great if you throw some info on MBS and its goodness, badness in the Group. It will be also great if you can get some of the fulltime students in MBS to get involved in the group.

Cheers

Work Ex: 3.5 yrs (by the time i join in) [not in IT; I work as Sr Engg Operations in Energy Sector]
Extra curri: great

Hi bhardwaj,

I think your profile looks ok.

Plz understand your experience counts more than your GMAT score. Please answer how can you enhance the inclass learning, what do u expect from your fellow students.

These are the questions MBS would like to understand from you.

I think i have answered most of your queries above on Recruitment.

I don't know much on the VISA front, but I have a link on work permits in my post above.

All the best.

Krishna

Hey Krishna ! Thanx for the reply buddy!
I guess I have a decent work exposure while working with a Energy sector major. Post MBA I have plans to enter into a consultancy firm related to operations.
I want to know more about the campus placements/ other placements options specifically for the Jan intake batch. Please help

Re: MBA in Australia - Melbourne Business School - 30-04-2008, 07:21 AM

Hey,

I am new to this website and am quite unsure if this is the correct place to post a questions. I have a couple of questions about the Nlebourne Business school MBA.

I am 25 and am planning to apply for the January intake. I am from India but moved to Canada for my undergrad. I am currently working in Canada and have 4 years of work experience (2 yrs as a financial cousellor and 2 yrs as a Supervisor of a team of 10 Financial counsellors). My questions are:

- Is 4 years work ex good enough to be able get into MBS? Is it recommended that i work a little longer before i pursue my MBA?

- How are the placement opportunities upon completing your MBA - are international students allowed to work in Australia upon graduation? Do comapnies recruit you irrespective of your status in Aussi?

- Does your age matter at all considering that i shall be 26 when i start my MBA but the average age listed was 29?

Please help as i am very confused and cant seem to get any answer. Thank you in advance!

Hey Kunal,

I think your stats are decent enough to enter the Melbourne Business School. In my opinion, the work experience matters more than the age. And as you have mentioned you have international work ex, that will be very helpful for getting in there. You seem to have really dense work ex and I dont see any problem related to this area.

Well your other stats like GMAT score, undergrad study GPA and community/ extracurricular work are few other parameters that matter.

It would be great if you share your GMAT score, and GPA.
