Re: IIM Indore EXPGP Interview and Beyond - 04-01-2008, 06:49 PM

Hi,

I am one of the aspirants for this course. I have takenGMAT and my score is 680 , my profile is 7 years in IT, BE (REC) through out first class..Good acads so far.. I had applied for IIMA and IIMC as well but could not get even interview. I am also round 2 applicant forn ISB.. I really wanted to know more about this course. Like is it similar to PGPX of other IIM's, placement etc..

Also, they accept CAT scores, so what is my chance viz viz people having CAT scores..

Any more info on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rahul.

Re: IIM Indore EXPGP Interview and Beyond - 06-01-2008, 04:56 PM

This course is similar to what IIM A and IIMC offers under PGPX and PGPEX respectively. Infact, this is the oldest one started by any of the IIM's. The first batch was started in 2002.What is different is that, this is a semi full time course. You have campus component of 10 days and then 25 days off campus component. Let me tell you the off campus component is as rigorous as the campus component. You will be doing projects and field studies on whatever you did on the campus before you return back to the campus. Indeed, this is something that each one of us cherishes, although we had apprehensions when we started.

IIM accepts CAT score and GMAT score for admission to this course. But as you already know, the scores are not the only criteria for admission.A high score does not necessarily mean admission.Your score in GMAT translates to @ 90 percentile. Trust me IIM should have a fool proof mechanism in place to ensure that students with GMAT and CAT scores are treated alike.

You have a good chance , keep your fingers crossed.

If work ex is more than 5 years then with your profile you should get a call. But bear in mind during the interview you will be competing with people having more experience then yourselves. You need to show to the board that you are serious in pursuing this course for various reasons ,like it gives u a chance to learn and apply at the same time or your company has encourgaed you to go for this. They will definitely ask why did you not opt for regular PGP etc.. So prepare your answers well.

Best of luck for the interview.

If you need more info, please do let me know.

Regards

Re: IIM Indore EXPGP Interview and Beyond - 10-01-2008, 04:10 PM

Dear Holy..

I am also one of the applicants for this course. MY GMAT is 720 and I have 9 years of experince including 3 years overseas. I also have a call from IIM L IMPX program. Got interview from IIMA PGPX and ISB first round, but could not get through the final hurdle.
I really got more interested after watching the ET survey, which ranked IIMI 4th above IIML and IIMC , as the institutes to be most watched in 2008!

I want to know more about this course specifically . Very less information is available from outside and I have not come across any of the alumni.

What are the job prospects after doing this course and how industry takes this.

If you can throw somelight, that will be great.

What are my chances and any interview tips you would like to give me after I have two red dots against my name.

Gaurav

Thnx for ur inputs holysmokerule, but i noticed a couple of candidtaes in the existing batch whose ex was b/w the 5-6 yrs bracket so so i think i can get a call bt wud need a lot of effort to convert it
one more thing this prgrm is of 18 mnths as compared to the contemeprory IIM's PGPX..any specific reason as this wud only delay the ROI by 6 mnths ...
Thnx again ...

Here is the specific information you wanted. I have tried to put as much as possible in nutshell.

1. This is a course in general management, a student can specialise in his chosen area. Large number of electives are available in Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Operations etc.
2.Excellent course for those who want to change their line.
3.IMPORTANT: You study the same course ( minus few basic theoritical courses) from the same teachers, from the same books, at the same campus and at the same classrooms as the PGP folks at IIM I.
4.On completion here is what you get: An EPGDBM ;MBA degree from one of the IIM's, that too in a period of 18 months. You become part of IIM I and Pan IIM alumni.
5.BIG NEWS: The institute offers officially, placement for all the students who complete this course. This has been started with class which entered in 2007! There is no doubt that EXEPGP folks are going to improve upon the placement record of IIM Indore in a big way!Almost all of them will be having lateral placements.
For IIMI placement record please visit the www.iimidr.ac.in and click on placements.
6.The facilites for EXPGP are world class. Students stay in a/c rooms with attached baths and there is even room service!!!
7.If you want you can work as well, during the off campus days or can take up consulting assignment with some organisation! So, if you want you can earn as well as study! Its in your hand.
8.About the class: We are 52 of us. Almost all of them have come after clearing CAT.There are many with percentiles of 99.xx types who opted for this course. But remember here CAT/GMAT score is not everything just as is the case with other IIM's/ISB. IIM looks for more than 5 years of work experience and if you can prove that you have a great work ex and achievements , who knows you can make with even lesser CAT score.

As for the ET survey, we all at the campus are elated, but I think the general mood at the IIM I is not to take it very seriously. Infact of late the official policy has been to keep away from surveys.Yes, one thing is sure IIM I is going to see a rapid expansion in years to come. You can feel that looking at the work that is going on in the campus. The campus is huge , the biggest of all the IIM's and not even 10 % is under use.I think it boasts of one of the best infrastructure for any B school in India.

So for all those, who have 5 + years of work ex and have written CAT/GMAT this is a great opportunity to be in IIM.For those who have applied for this course great and for those who could not, better do next time!

Yes there are couple of them in 5-6 years range. I believe that IIM tries to get a mix of experience from the pool. So you have experiences ranging from 5 to 20 + years. But you rightly said that competition in this pool is maximum. Probably because the guys have higher GMAT/CAT score and moreover large number of applicants are from this pool only.
But I am pretty sure that you will get a call, but interview is a glorious uncertainity and you will be able to crack that if you prepare well .Since you have 5 yrs workex dont be surprised if they ask you from your engineering courses. But the questions wuld be very basic. Infact even from me, they asked questions about communication engineering, even though I had 8 + years.
So just conc. on interview now and you will be in.

I wish I could answer the duration part of the course exactly. However, since this was the first EX course started in 2002 , I believe it was designed in such a way, such that there is a mix of campus and off campus component. If my info is correct, earlier this course was to be jointly offered by IIM A and IIMI but later IIM A came up with its own version of PGPX and rest is history. So you never know what is in store for the future.
Yes 18 months is 6 months more but it has two angles. One is ROI gets delayed by six months but the other angle is that you get little more time to chew and digest what you learn and in this case apply too!! I believe if you have been able to chew and digest well then ROI six months later or earlier may not make much of difference.
