Hey Guys...I have been considering Schulich for a while now and have done a lot of research over the last couple of weeks....I seriously feel that someone out here is trying to malign the reputation of a good school( if not very good or excellent ).. I have couple of good friends in schulich and i have had long hours of discussion with them on the same context...Schulich on any day is a amazing school if you are looking at value addition....Yes, Finding a good job is a challenge bt then its not impossible.... Moreover someone in this forum who has been trying to malign Schulich in a very bad away and claims to be a schulich student is actually not.. I have had my friends looking into the Schulich student and alumni database and there is no one with that name...Also i find that all the ppl who are speaking completely negative things about schulich are merely 5-10 posts old and all the posts are for only against schulich..I somehow dont buy this...Why would so many people at a similar time come up from no where and start warning people against applying to a school...i see a conspiracy.....may be i am wrong...bt thats how i look at it....i request everyone to do a good research..contact alumni;s , current students...I happened to be interviewed by a very senior lady in Schulich on her visit to india couple of months back and it was really impressive....ppl are talking abt poor selectivity ... the avg GMAT is 660+ ( which is higher than a lot of good US B schools)...My friends tell me that every year a lot of IIT's come to schulich .. so for me the peer group cant be as bad as what someone mentioned in the forum....Someone in the forum mentioned that he gt thru schulich with AWA of 4...thts not possible...the website clearly states that minimum AWA reqmnt is 5.....So folks , give a good thought before you fall into some sort of loop...

Tempers seem to be rising here, but i frankly believe what CANADIANDESI sez. i would rather believe him anyday than believe a random IT dude from india who sez he has friends in canada who told him about schulich.
i have done alot of research in the past FOUR years about business schools. i have a very dear friend who is a first year student at schilich and a bachpan ka friend who has been working in canada for past 3 years, and have come to a conclusion that schulich isnt gud if u dont intend to settle down in canada and it aint gud even fr that if u can get an mba from any other of the first 50-60 schools on the FT list.
i got schulich last year but chose not to attend. in canada its rotman for 2 years and ivey for one year. period.

Just wanted to further the discussion on jobs being better in US, UK/Europe and Aus than Canada.... Question is how easy is it for internationals to get work permits (or preference over the local pool) in these regions....
For eg. how easy is it for an indian passport holder passing out of Babson to find a job in the US and get an H1 when compared to an indian passing out of a Canadian BSchool (and getting an equivalent job in Canada).... (I understand the salaries are lower than in US...)
p.s. Sorry for digressing from the Schulich specific discussion, but I think this factor might also help potential candidates in choosing BSchools...
p.p.s. I am not promoting Schulich... I am from Rotman  "Trust me, I know what I am doing" - Sledgehammer

My # of post has no relevance and my only other post is a post in the Olin forum.
Reason why there may be new entrants here is because these are the most active MBA forums anywhere on the web not because everyone decides to CONSPIRE here. NOW. You know what I don't like? When people who are NOT from Canada speak like they know Canada
I was born and raised here.
I worked for three years at TD and BMO before going to Babson. My family lives near York.
From what I have seen, those who support this school are desis from India. And those who don't support it are desis from Canada. Who knows more? THE CANADIANS!
Would you trust an Australian speaking about , ISB or IIT more than an Indian?
Come on! I know the players, the corporations, the salaries and all else. I dont understand how someone who has not even come to Canada can argue this.
I have nothing against Schulich. The school did nothing to me. I know Canadians who did their undergrad there. But still, until you graduate from the school, get through the system, and make great $$ DON'T TALK . Don't listen to your friends about how good the school is until they get out and make good $$. So far, no Schulich graduate has come forward to talk about their salary! I know a few who have! And the salary? Its decent but nothing compared to US, UK, Europe or Aus!
No need to lecture or question me! Ask your aunties, uncles, cousins, or other desis you know from Canada. They will only repeat what i say. Maybe then you will listen. Don't talk about "maligning" or "conspirator" when people like me go through the time and efforts to help!
Again I have nothing against York. But just look at the rankings and country salary comparisons. Then look at the salary comparisons of Canadian schools vs those of the world. If you cant make sense of this.. Then there is no sense in going to business school at all! | Hi Canadian Desi..You took my words a bit too personal i guess....I am not studying at York nor do i have anything special for YORK...but i am trying to question certain facts which have been mentioned in the forum by members other than you...and i have done enough research and spoken to enough folks who have been there for ages now...As far as salary stats are concerned its a known fact that canadian salaries are lesser than US salaries....bt the living expenses are less as well.....You talk abt avg 109,000 $ ( the figure is inflated ) from Babson however you also need to take into consideration that these salaries are in Boston..which is one of the most expensive cities of the world......Now will it make any sense to compare a 15 lacs avg from a IIM viz a viz 100,000 $ at Babson...Everyone knows which is a better school .... there is no point in comparing salaries between nations.....I have already mentioned in my last post and would reiterate the same....My primary concern is against certain folks who have mentioned wrong facts and figures as far as selectivity is concerned...i mean a guy with 650 and 4 on AWA claiming to be on rolls of schulich....but he is nt.....
Lastly i am not here to get into any kind of altercation or conflict with anyone...I just want everyone to do some sort of research before forming any kind of image for any school...

First, you say Babson "overinflates" salaries.
I am ready to graduate from there and have been offered position of $102,000US plus a signing bonus. Departmental Vice Presidents at Canadian banks don't earn this sum (I would know)
And I am only an Associate in Investment Banking! SO YOUR STATEMENT WRONG.
Next whoever is speaking on cost of living etc. With the subprime mortgage crisis and the affect on both mortgage backed securities and house values in US, there is no way the cost of living in BOSTON is HIGHER than Toronto. The average price of a home (condo, townhouse, single-detached) just broke the $400,000 mark in Greater Toronto Area this month. The Toronto market is unphased by mortgage meltdown in US and is hot, strong, and expensive as ever. I would accept such argument for London, UK but NOT for Boston. WRONG AGAIN. Second, if any school is guilty of overinflating, it IS Schulich (notice I speak only of Schulich, no other Canadian schools). Again I have nothing against the school at all, just stating the facts. The school is renowned for its brand advertising program and does great job selling its "image" to people across the world like you, who know no better. We, Canadians know! Any corner, any forum, any blog on internet, "Schulich School of business : #1 MBA school in Canada." Canadians just sit and laugh!!! Any school trying so hard to promote itself raise big questions! And this statement is untrue! Overinflation at the very best! Further, I know 3 people who enter the school with less than 550 GMAT. I know some with less than 5.0AWA too. They have many unofficial "standard" for GMAT, AWA, TOEFL but to meet supply/demand metric, they break it with consistency. My cousin told me recently they implemented crude admissions policy. They require candidate to accept admission offer before releasing scholarship information. They want to secure candidate first! Any school that operates in this manner is not upfront, truthful at all! You can see from the beginning! Again, I have nothing against the school. Some of my closest friends and cousins went there. But Again, I speak the truth! I am a Canadian! I know answers! Who would you trust? Admission officers and website at #1 advertising school in country or me who knows people who got in? You have to learn to believe. We are all not here "malign" but to advise. Schulich has done such great ad job on you, you are fervent Schulich is heaven on earth. It is not! Just by glancing at Schulich numbers YOU YOURSELF can see indications of what i say. The mean GMAT is much higher than median. As a mathmetician who has done GMAT, you must know a few high end scorers (with schols) may skew the average number. Most good school have median higher than mean (because people consistently score high). Again I have nothing against Schulich. I just make distinction in perception (YOU) vs. reality (ME). Talk to me in a few years when you graduate. No offence to anyone on this forum but some of you Indian desis are "know it alls" You think you know everything on everything. Respect the opinion of people who born, live and grow up in a place. I would listen with open arm to you if I wanted to study in India. | hi .
