i am a software engineer workin with infosys.
x th -69.8
xii th - 72.4
graduation %64.26
pune university.(B.E.(IT))
cat 2007 - 89.52 %ile
good extra curriculars.

state level english debate winner.
state level lawn tennis player
university level squash player

and many more inter college events

my queries.

1. would it make sense for me to do an mba right now if in case i get an offer, i mean will i be an underdog during placements with only 8 months of work ex. (in the sense i really don't want to wait for ma mba and have some personal reasons for the same)

2. does the admission procees lay a lot of stress on extra xcurriculars , do you know anyone with extra ordinary currculars and less persentilke or exp who has got thru

3. What does the word rolling application mean does it mean i can be considered for the next cycle after i have enough work ex.

4. what is the procedure of defering ur offer does the insti give a defered offer to candidates if they don't have enough work ex to gain some and then join.

5. i have applied for services marketing does that make my work experience as a software engineer in infosys relevant (IT sector being a service sector) i am working in learning services.

Finally Applied to GMBA!!!

Had a couple of queries!!!

I wanted to know whether the placements (read packages and profiles) the same for both the Jan batch and may/june batches?? As in companies generally go hunting for B grads during novemember! I tried browsing thru the website for placement statistics of the last June batch (June 2007 passouts that is)

Secondly, Its a 1 yr prgrm , so is there any thing like summer internship, if YES then for how many days/weeks! Cos I think summers give a good amount of exposure to enable the candidate select his profile/role for final placement!

I have got 92.95 in cat with (VA: 85.22, DI: 80.87 , QA: 94)
I have 20 months work ex in a telecom mnc .. I have done many projects and am interested in marketing management (product development)

I have good academic record and extra and co curriculars..
Will my work ex and cat score suffice for the shortlisting in SP Jain GMBA program.

Also I wanted to know the placement stats of the students getting placed in India and not just indian mnc... want to come bk to india and work here..

Well as already mentioned Sp jain D/S calls are mostly profile based where Score( CAT/GMAT/SPJAT) serves as one parameter.
Regarding the percentile, If you wana improve it , u can apply for SPJAT test as well. But just in case u dont know, the CAT cutoff for SPJCM is 80 percentile as per the website(Check FAQ), Which you have already cleared. Ofcourse best score will be taken into consideration.

U have a very Intresting first question, Honestly to this question i have no definite answer nor i have any authority to comment on it but let me give you my perspective:

I believe its your entire profile, Ur extracriculr, ur achievements that matters and not just a score. its the level of competetion that decides who gets a call who does not, and so as long as you have cleared the Sp jain cutoff mark , u are in the race, but going ahead ur profile will further scrutnized by the adcom for other aspects like acads, ur workx( relevent or not relevent to the specz u applied), ur achievements from schools to professional life, Any USP, Any specifice certifications to support your interest etc.

So at last i would say dont think too much into it as of now, Apply and leave rest for the Adcom to decide, u be positive from your side and yes be prepared for if an interview call come your way.Its stays your way..!!!

I have got 91% in CAT and decent acads with 32 months of IT experience in MNC including 6 months of onsite experience. I am interested in pursuing my career in marketing, can anyone tell me whether i should apply for marketing(with no relevant experience) as my interests or should i apply for IT Management as i have 32 months of relevant experience which might help me.

Also do let me know if there is anyone who have opted for marketing after working in IT for quite sometime.

I got an offer for Jan 2008 batch, but as I had some personal issue, I denied (not deferred) the offer.

Now can I re-apply for the June cycle? Does my refusal of the previous offer have a negative impact?

Please guide me.

1. Well honestly this is something for you to decide. To me its not the number of years of Workx that matters but the knowledge that you possess. If you think u have the required knowldege,passion and the clarity of goal abt the field you applying to, than this is the right time else not.

2. Yes as per my understanding , if u have extracricular its good but if u dont have much to show, its still is ok . Remember one thing its not abt having a baggage of extracricular stuff but its about glorifying whatever little you possess.

3. Rolling means admission process will be held more than once till the admission date closes,and u can apply only once during this process.

4. No its not that way. One can defer once he/she has got the final offer. I defered from jan to june coz of work related commitments.

5. I am myself an infoscion and have got the admit for SMM. . So no issues as long as you are clear abt your goals. Plz have a look at the first page of this thread,that will give you a better picture.


At last i would recommed , apply and let Adcom do the thinking. U from your side be well prepared for GD/PI..!

I guess this query can be answered better by a current batch student. Just to tell you , june is the flagship batch od SPJCM, Jan batch started last year only.
Placement wise i dont see any difference. However even i would like seniors to throw some light on this aspect.

regarding summer internship, usually 1 year prog don't have it but Let me confirm this part and get back to you.

U have a good percentile and decent exp. Having good academic record and extra and co curriculars is suerly going to help. So be positive and apply.
As previoulsy mentioned i m myself am from IT background and going for Service marketing. So if its possible for me , so is for everyone else.
So as long as u have the reasoning , knowledge and can convince the pannel about your choice , there is no problems. So focus on Why part of MBA and Why a particluar specz for u.
Regarding Placements, i know as much as you do based on th website info, though i will try and get some more info,for that you need to give me some time.
