IB mainly revolves around Mergers & Acquisitions, private equity investments, research and analysis, generating investment ideas, raising funds from sources like IPO, ECB's. WM covers effective management of surplus money people have for investment which revolves around portfolio management, investment advisory services for equity and debt instruments like Govt. bonds.

WM takes care of generating best returns from investment taking care of tax implications so is more specific, with more millionares in the making each day, there is a huge requirement for wealth management professionals. IB is diversified so has greater scope. I hope it helps.

All the best.

Very well explained Sourabh!

I would agree with Sourabh on requesting for a change in specialization part as well.

IF i were you and money was not a problem for me i would have chosen SPJCM , but it sounds like there is some problem at your end , in that case i would recommend you look into other options at hand.

BTW , i believe IITKan and IITM are good Bschools but definitely not as good as SPJ when you consider the placements and education quality , also u need to majorly factor in the (2) Two years you would invest in the IIT.

I hope this helps in deciding!!!

Hi there...

I have some serious queries and hope that you can answer them...

I have an admit for the SMM spec starting this May. Now, till date, this is my only covert. But have given the GD/PIs in IITKanpur and IITM. And i would rate those two interviews as having done quite well, conservatively.

And i also agree that comparing IITs with SPJCM is futile and wont do any good to either of em, but, with only these things in hand, i have to take a calculated decision. And when i spoke to a counselor he rubbished SPJCM which i am loathe to believe.

The part im most worried about is ROI. I assume an expense of 15-16L for the 1 yr at SPJ, but i need to spend just 2L for 2 yrs at the IITs. Secondly, while personally i wud simply luv to be a part of SPJCM, i was VERY impressed with what IITM has to offer, IF, i do convert.

The bottomline being... IM SCARED. I dont want to go through the entire CAT stuff again. And with a workex of 30 months(Shipping 12 months, 18 months Brand Consulting in a startup) im very much worried about my future.

While i do luv my present job, the lack of progress is putting me off...

So plz do give your opinions and help me make a decision. And again the bottomline is.. MONEY.. 16L is no easy money, but, is it worthwhile?? Will i make it up?? And ppl say that you get less than half of what u get as CTC in hand.. Is that true??

Guys.. I REALLY need your help... at the earliest.. Please.

Hi Kavita..

Thanks for ur suggestion. And YES, Money is a problem, but am willing to take the plunge provided iam sure of the returns.. But thats impossible for anyone to know and therein lies the catch..

Anyways i dont wish to waste another yr for CAT prep et al.. so as of now, i'll try to patch up a loan somehow.. I got time till the 3rd to confirm my admit.. Will cross the bridge when i come to it..

Thanks again..

P.S: IITK/M results come by the April 10.. might decide to forfeit 1L if i make it there..

@ Vijaynat..
I spoke to a few of my friends who are currently in SPJCM.. they said thr isnt much difference in IB and WM wrt the placement.. so i'd suggest take up WM, rather than wait for the IB waitlist to clear (which can get dicey).. try talkin 1-to-1 with someone currently doing IB/WM/BM..
All the best! and let us know what u decided and took up finally

@ vijaynat

The course structure is also very same apart from a little difference in semester 2. We are not sure what kinda profiles are offered to passouts, but if its not really into somrething like core M&A then you may land up with the same profile after doing either of the course.

Much depends on what you want to do post MBA.I know a guy who did SPJCM got place in Cognizant, gave interviews offcampus and is now working in equity research. Also his packagae is now much more than cogni offered in campus.I think more than anything else what you will earn finally is a function of your knowledge and to an extent brand of the college.I consider SP Jain is a gud brand to have it attached to your name so it will finallyboils down to the other criteria.

Above are my personal opinions. descision is yours.
