Hello PG mates,
The past week has been great for HKUST and its students.

The recent EIU rankings have definitely increased the brand awareness of the School and each one of us - the staff, current students and alumni take great pride in being associated with the school.

Achieving No. 11 ranking among top global B-Schools and No. 1 in Asia in itself is a an achievement for a relatively “young” school like HKUST.

there u go !

Hope prospective applicants are following the trends in the Global B-School Rankings!!!!...

Hey Abhi,

Thanks for the inputs...

1. Internship/ Placements - my questions was - is it like US b schools or ISB where the placement department takes care of all the formalities and ensures lot of relevant co.s recruit OR is it more like Europe where few companies recruit on campus and recruitments largely happen off campus through network/ old employers - Wats the scenario at HKUST !!

2. Is the intake size only 60 for 2009 as well ??

3. Learning Mandarian language - mandatory or helpful (optional) !!

4. Based on ur till date expericen does HKSUR encourage case study/ hand on approach or typical approach class room approach.

5. Hows the faculty mix. I went through the website of CEIBS - they have good mix of chinese, european and us faculties from top notch colleges - Hows the scenario at HKUST !

6. Do they necessarily take interviews of candidates - WAT are the key criteria which adcom consider while evaluating a candidate - In your Opinion !

7. I know its tricky and unfair to compare bschools but - if compared - CEIBS, ISB, HKUST - placement/ faculty/ international exposure - how do u rate !!

8. Loans/ scholarship etc - How easy or difficult it is to get loan/scholarship for HKUST MBA !!

I think m asking too many questions....

thanks in advance !

all the best to you as well

In terms of course knowledge and teaching I feel HKUST is on par with the top global B-Schools in these specified areas..

Wrt specialising in Business strategy/Consulting - HKUST does not provide a seperate specialization for these subjects , but u can pick your electives in these domains to cater to your needs.

Cheers,
Abhishek
Hi Abhishek,
I want to specialise in Business strategy/Consulting. What are the job prospects after MBA if I take my electives for these subjects

Dear Nitin,

My response in Italics

Combination of both .

2. Is the intake size only 60 for 2009 as well ??

Intake for 2008 was 94 .

3. Learning Mandarian language - mandatory or helpful (optional) !!

Is not mandatory but helpful.

4. Based on ur till date expericen does HKSUR encourage case study/ hand on approach or typical approach class room approach.

HKUST follows case based approach

5. Hows the faculty mix. I went through the website of CEIBS - they have good mix of chinese, european and us faculties from top notch colleges - Hows the scenario at HKUST !

The faculty mix is very good. Most of the prof's have PHD's from leading universities

6. Do they necessarily take interviews of candidates - WAT are the key criteria which adcom consider while evaluating a candidate - In your Opinion !

Yes, they do take interview of candidates.Importance is given to all the criteria;s for evaluating a candidate , but it helps if u can differentiate urself from others via your workexp or views expressed via essays.

7. I know its tricky and unfair to compare bschools but - if compared - CEIBS, ISB, HKUST - placement/ faculty/ international exposure - how do u rate !!

I would follow the rankings.

8. Loans/ scholarship etc - How easy or difficult it is to get loan/scholarship for HKUST MBA !!

There is a merit and need based scholarship offered by the school of upto 75,000 HKD (1HKD ~=~ 5.5INR).

ATB,
Preeti

Congrats on your decision to apply to HKUST. If you've surely decided to apply to HKUST, it will save you 25 USD if you can choose HKUST as one of your top 5 schools.

I don't know the code, but you will definitely have enough time to search for the school and apply. Ensure you choose "HKUST - Hong Kong University of Science and Technology" and not "HKU - University of Hong Kong" which is an entirely different school in HK.

All the best for your GMAT and App.

Cheers,
Randhir

Rishi,

A lot of my batchmates dont have finance background and they want to switch to Finance related jobs . Infact a lot of engineers do MBA and hence that should not be a standalone case for either application or jobsearch.Scholarship is offered need based irrespective of the round you apply.

All the best with your application process.

Preeti
