Business Plan Competitions / Case Competitions:
You must have heard about the above competitions and they define the B-schools experience. Me and Randhir have been through them of late and probably one of the reasons we didnt reply the posts.
HKUST has the tradition of encouraging students to represent the school in as many competitions as possible. Randhir has been to Carnegie Mellon U and has been selected to Rice Univ as well. I finished 3rd in Asia Moot Competition in Thailand [I dont like travelling to USA

] .
I got a full life cycle experience of starting up a company, doing the industry due dilligence ...all the way to pitching the business to Venture Capitalists. The experience is simply superb, and you get to meet the top people of the industry. Even if you dont want to start that company, the exp helps you a lot in real life. I was questioned by 4 or 5 CEOs during my presentation ~ the experience simply blew me off.
Thailand, absolutely rocks ! Free stay at 5* hotel for a week and networking with CXOs, VCs, Consultants and the vital feedback session you get for free. I personally saw many people get jobs on the spot. Some FIN/Accounting firm CEOs handed business cards to students and made open offers.
The prize money is not less ! Every student in HKUST MBA gets that chance to represent if they are interested. Around 20 students are off the campus now and in some part of the world pitching their B-Plans or doing Consulting assignments. One team went to Hollywood and presented their case on Next Gen Movie distribution to FOX Entertainment !
I justed wanted prospective students to know more about this defining experience ! I simply couldnt sleep after the experience ~
