Re: Nanyang application interviews and admits (2008) - 22-04-2008, 03:32 PM

Hey,

Congrats Nouveau.

We are really having a batch of people with varied experiences. so far, its nouveau with 9 years, suresh with 5 years & I have 2 years experience. Lesse where the next person fits in.

Anyone else has been interviewed this week?

Puys i spoke to one of the current students at NTU. He has given me an overview about the college.

NTU Campus: Huge, Around 300 Acres, Ample opportunities for extra curriculars, Awesome place to study & live. NTu is in the West Catchment of singapore and is approximately 1 Hour from the main city.

Batch Composition: Its generally a batch of around 90 people. Out of this, around 15 indians, lots of chinese & lots of europeans.
Last Years batch was 85 ppl (14 indians).

Monthly Expenses: Everyone stays in the Graduate Hall. Mostly everyone goes for Single Rooms which cost 350 SGD / month. Twin sharing costs 250 SGD / month. Total expenses including food, accomodation & miscellaneous is around 1000 SGD/month.

Scholarships: Generally, its just 1 indian per batch that gets a 50% waiver on tution fees.

Internships: Lots of opportunities for internships. Although one has to be active throughout the tear as companies keep coming to the campus. Average Stipend ranges from 1000 - 2000 SGD / month.

Placements: Any prior relevant experience helps immensly. For finance jobs, a specialization in finance improves the chances. Also, If one is open to different areas, then lots of opportunities are available & placement should not be a problem. Last few years, the CSO has improved by leaps & bounds.

The placements are not very strong in the Management consulting domain. However, Accenture is expected to visit NBS this year & also BCG comes at a university level.

For someone with just 2-3 years experience, average salary could be between 5k - 7.5k SGD / month. This does not include any bonuses. Guys with more work experience, especially relevant experience can really expect some much bigger numbers.

Tax Structure (this is my own research): Includes fixed plus bonuses plus all other components of the salary

This is according to YA2007

Chargeable IncomeRate (%)Gross Tax Payable ($)
First $20,000 - 0%
Next $10,0000 - 3.5%
Next $10,000 - 5.5%
Next $40,000 - 8.5%
Next $80,000 - 14%
Next $160,000- 17%
Above $320,000 - 20%

I hope this helps people to calculate their ROIs as well.

Overall, I think it sounds quite good. All the best to everyone else waiting for the call.

Regards,
Puneet

GMAT : 700
Acads : Good (IT-BHU)

The interview was pretty relaxed and lasted 20~25 minutes. No surprises there and more or less went on expected lines. I was told I can expect a result within 2 weeks time. But 3 days is 11 days too early!

ATB to those who are waiting.

BTW, I submitted my application on the penultimate day ie 30th March.

Hey Puneet,

It's really a great reasearch and should help to minimize whatever concern we have on NTU. Thanks a lot for sharing the same with us.

Friends, why not we (who are planning to accept NTU offer) sit togeher and discuss our future ativities???? I have opened a new group (in my signature) for this.

Hey All,

I just got a call from Nanyang for the application interview. The number shown on my cell was +5065 so I guessed it was from Singapore and from Nanyang. It was more of a casual conversation.

1. Tell me more about your work.
2. How do you keep yourself upto speed on your functional knowledge.
3. What do you do when you are not at work and not getting disturbed by phone calls
4. Any international exposure?
5. You had applied at ISB and NUS as well. Whats the status of those applications?
6. Do you have any questions for us?

I then just spoke with her about a few things. Just a casual conversation.

The entire chat lasted for 14 mins 32 seconds as per my cellphone Call Register.

Thanks,
Abhishek.

I was interviewed and offered admission few days back. The interview was quite causal with standard questions like - Why MBA?, Why Spore? Post MBA plans?, What do I do in free time?, etc. It lasted around 10-12 mins.
My profile is as follows -
GMAT - 700
Work Exp - 5 yrs by June `08 in IT (2 yrs intl exp)
Acads - Avg

Congrats to all who have received admits. I
t seems 7-8 have already received from India ( from Pagalguy) and there might be others who are not on Pagalguy.

If the number of Indian admits is generally around 15 ..then I guess the chances of receiving a call now are very less.....

Re: Nanyang application interviews and admits (2008) - 24-04-2008, 08:33 AM

Hi guys

End of March I applied for the NTU double-MBA (waseda), the MBA and a specialized master in International Business, following my priorities.
I obtained an interview the April 18th (Friday), and received an admission offer the April 21th (Monday) for my first wish, the double-MBA. Even tho the interviewer said that it would require typically 2 weeks to be notified, he also told me that the examination comitee would gather Monday.

My profile is as follow:

French, 28yo
PhD in geophysics and remote sensing from French university (Toulouse)
Toefl: 113/120
Gmat: 520 (1 try), AWA:5
Excellent academics (2 awards for project proposal, 3 international papers,...)
Important international exposure (3y univ degree in Barcelona, lots of international conferences and research trips, 6 months of research in ERI (univ of Tokyo), activities in Egypt, Bangladesh and Singapore).
Various experience science and business management (Univ lecturer in science (4y), student research supervisor (3y), scientific project leader (3y), project manager assistant of a seismic crew in operation (9m)).

I was surprised to be offered the admission considering my low gmat score but I had excellent reference letters and the interview went pretty well.

Good luck to the other applicants.

I think I will go for a graduate room in the NTU campus. However, I am use to live with flatmates and it is most of the time a cheaper alternative. So if anyone is interrested in getting a flat with few classmates and/or have any interresting propositions please feel free to Email me.

See ya

Julien
