P.S - I have an admit with IE and an interview pending with HEC.
IE is ranked significantly higher by both Business Week and the Financial Times and IE outperforms HEC Paris in three key indicators: employment three months after graduating, salary increase, and 3-year post-MBA salary. While a little less than half of the IE graduates stay in Western Europe, 70% of HEC Paris graduates do stay in the region. This might mean that HEC has a bit less of a global reach and reputation.
I hope this helps you decide!

Will they consider me with less exp (3 yrs by sept) ? Where does CBS stand in terms of MBA ranking ? My job basically has been technical only with very few opportunities for showing leadership skills etc, will it be a negative point ?

Thanks in Advance!
Hi, Sandeep. I actually do believe that the programs – including CBS – will consider you with only three years of experience, but in those three years you will need to demonstrate significant leadership and impact. If your current role is not allowing you that type of freedom, you may need to pursue a promotion or look elsewhere because this position sounds like a dead end.
I also suggest that you take a significant leadership role in community activities as well. This is another area of leadership that the top MBA programs are seeking.

Could you please assess my profile:
GMAT: 700 ( Q 49, V 35, AWA 5 )
Education : B.Tech (from premier college) - Topper

M.Tech(IIT) - Among the toppers
Work Experience: 6+ years in Telecom domain(working as a technical leader, leading project as well as customer interaction)
Extra curriculars: Good
Community services: Involvement in many NGOs, co founded one especially for providing micro credit facilities to underprevileged and now successfully running in multiple places with many volunteers.
Extra achievements: Class I officer in Indian railways (Qualified IES, UPSC one of the toughest exams to crack)

My goal: I have a passion to serve my country and this passion motivated me to prepare for Indian Engineering Services, a techno managerial cadre in Indian Govt. Qualifying it with a good rank, I chose the coveted post of Indian railways, which is the biggest and most complex network in the world(Every day Indian railways carry the population of 40 countries!!!!). I want to apply my technical knowledge, which I gained while working in Telecom industry, to improve the Indian railways, which are lagging on various fronts. To make Indian railways successful as profitable ventures, a good knowledge of business domain is absolutely necessary , which only an MBA can provide me. From MBA I wish to learn the general management with a focus on transportation mngmnt as well as strategy and innovation.
Short term goal -> To join a consulting firm to hone my skills in consulting especially infrastructure consulting(rail, road, general transportation).
Long term goal-> Armed with buisness knowledge, I would join Indian railways and make an effective contribution to improve the Railways and make it world's best.

I am planning to apply in INSEAD, Judge, SAID in R3.( Yes I got late in applying  due to some personal reasons)
Does my above profile and my reason to pursue MBA strong enough to convince adcom? Would you suggest me to go ahead and apply to my 3 dream schools in R3?
Your comments would be invaluable to me.
Thanking you in anticipation.
regards
fsajjad
I do think that the railway experience and goals will catch the interest of the MBA programs, yes, but the trick will be to make sure that your examples and essays do not just tell the same story of technical project management that so many others tell. In addition, for the career goal essay, you will need to be very detailed about the guarantee (if any) of a job in IES after your consulting stint. This is really key for them to buy into your future career path.
INSEAD's January intake is the "better" option in my opinion since it allows students time for an internship. The first round deadline for that program is March 11 so you have plenty of time. The "problem" with that option is that if you are accepted Round 3 to either Judge or Said you will probably have to decide (and submit a deposit) before you have an answer from INSEAD.
I do think a Round 3 application is worthwhile, especially this year because of the global downturn that in my opinion will keep others from attending (leaving more spots available in Round 3 than there are usually).
Best of luck with the application process!

Jennifer Bloom, CPRW

Babson is a truly excellent program that will prepare you for your entrepreneurial career goals. However, if you compare salaries for students at Stanford, UCLA, MIT, and Babson after graduating you will see a large discrepancy: while the average starting salary for Babson graduates is $92K, Stanford graduates are making an average of over $120K, MIT grads are earning an average of $111K, and UCLA grads are earning $100K (according to BusinessWeek). These statistics are what prompt people to claim a low return for the money. I strongly recommend that you visit the programs and speak to current students and graduates to determine if Babson is or is not a good fit for you and your career goals before you decide.

Hi, Soulinluv. The key to your success is going to be highlighting your public sector experience and deflecting attention from your IT background. If you think you could boost your GMAT to a 730 or above, I do think that would help, yes, but just going up 10 points is not going to be as influential as the impact you could have if you were to make a large impression on public policy or an NGO in the next six months instead.

Other strong social entrepreneurship MBA programs that you may want to consider include Duke, Kellogg, Haas, and Cornell.

Ask Jennifer@Accepted.com: Application-writing advice for the best global B-schoo - 03-03-2009, 09:34 AM

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for all the time that you are spending to help eager applicants like us.

I had given my GMAT (got 720) immediately after I graduated from engineering in May 2007. I was clear I wanted to do an MBA after 3 years of work ex and thus thought it was best to give GMAT at that stage so that I could focus on other parameters. Now I am planning to apply to universities in US for the class of 2010-2012.

I had a couple of queries based on this -

1) Would my GMAT score being a couple of years old have a negative impact on my application? I was hoping I could actually use it as an advantage for showing the clarity and focus I had from the starting of my career.

2) Is there any university you are aware of which doesnt accept a GMAT score older than 2 years?

Kindly advice.

Cheers,

Nikhil
