Question Re: Asian Institute of Management (AIM) 2008 discussions - 08-04-2008, 07:26 PM

Hi all
i am newbie to this forum and it was extremely informative to go through it.
I am sep intake for Aim but i am confused.

--
Dont know how much this accredition helps at the time when the global markets are going through a recession. More so if Warren Buffet is to be believed then this recession would be similar to the great depression of 1929.

And going by the conservative estimate ,it would take at least 3-5 years for the economies to recover and add to that fact the political turmoil in
US ,INDIA(if 3rd front goverment ,which is 100% full of Jaahil Gawar Politicians) and china (not so much but Tibet Incident would affect them in more than one ways...<according to the reports in The economist).

and all after this i am a bit confused if i should go for the MBA from Manila ,keeping in view of Return on investments.

also in times to come 6 more IIMs are coming up ..whose placements can make anyone envious .

I may be missing something here but then why do u think all the recession , depression and all that you have written will affect AIM alone . What about the other b-schools that you want to get into ?. Honestly we were a bit concerned about the accreditation loss but are a little convinced (just a little) now.

I appreciate your concerns but when somebody wants to join a school they can come up with all the reasons to justify it .Same with the case where you dont wanna join too.

hey..i find it a little paradoxical...on one hand you talk of political turmoil..on the other..you talk of 6 new IIMs..i guess you do know that these 6 new IIMs will have to get the approval of the ruling party

btw...6 new IIMs are planned in a phased manner...if ur thinking of doing ur MBA next year or the year after that..there are very few chances of all of these being setup by that time !!
another point - the IIM brand name is being challenged with every passing year...im sure you would've already seen some rankings where MDI, SPJ, XLRI divide some of the IIMs...infact..i know people this year who are sceptical of joining IIM Shillong since its the first year of inception...

so well - the ball is back in your court...
my two cents - worry / think about things that are in your control..recession isnt...so just let it be !!

cheers,
Ajax

Why forget the ISB..........its one college which has really turned things into a totally different direction......world rank of 20 is something which has started to fascinate every Indian MBA aspirant.......
If one takes my advice....he/she should not wait for the upcoming IIMs.....I remember, the same thing happened with IITs......ISM Dhanbad and IT-BHU were taken into the IIT circle, but trust me nothing great happened there.....I have some friends from these two lesser known IITs.........things remained the same. And I guess the same would happen to the upcoming IIMs.......it will surely take some time to build the brand for these 6 colleges (if they ever come up).
Finally I would just say one thing - A Bird in hand is better than two in the Bush. Rest its upto you........All the best!

Hi Guys,

I am newbie.
I am having an experience of 2.5 yrs IT experience and looking for MBA from AIM.

Can any one provide some info or link

About AIM's Executive MBA Program--
How is the placement after successful completion.
Duration of course?
Entrance procedure/ Eligibility Criteria?
How much is total expenditure?
when and how to apply for it?

Also, Is there any other course offered by this institute which have better opportunities.

Thanks in advance...your help will be highly appretiated.

hi!
first thing you should do is to check the AIM website (Asian Institute of Management) and then contact the AIM's Mumbai office for the details. And apart from this you should start preparing for the written exam (GMAT pattern), and then start speculating the reason why you want to do MBA (because you will have to mention all this in your SOPs).

And as far as Executive MBA is concerned, well I feel that 2.5 yrs of experience is way too less than the desired, So if you are decided that you have to go for executive MBA programme then you will have to wait for few more years. Also, an executive MBA programme demands some managerial experience too. So now you decide whats best for you at this point in time.

{I guess IIMs ask for a minimum of 5 years of experience for its Executive MBA programme.}

Hope this was useful to you.

Thanks & Regards
