GMAT scores seem to be quite high in this year's pool of applicants, hence your score seems to be a concern.
However, going through the profile of second batch of students, (uploaded by TIME) everyone in the batch with IT background, seems to be PMP certified. So that should be a good indication for you. :-)
Now that the applications have already been sent, there's not much reason for worrying about "your chances". 10th Sep is going to be the first milestone in this journey that will allay a lot of apprehensions. Till then, patience is a virtue.... :-)
ATB and let's give our best shot... :-)

I concur that an event need not necessarily be from one's life ... very often events in world history have had profound influence on human psyche ..
Having an event would provide some uniqueness to your essay as majority would like to mention an achievement of their own.. thats my take though ..
All the best on your application .

What does the group think ?

You most certainly can write about an event outside of your life. The key is to be able to articulate as to HOW and WHY this event changed your train of thought and your way of living.

Didn't get any feedback from adcom, although i did request them.
I think there would be multiple factors for missing out on PGPEX ..
- my GMAT and AWA scores are on the lower side ..
Most applicants from IT background have 700 + scores..
- Don't really have a really exceptional academic record. Its average.
- Perhaps IIMC profs weren't convinced enough in the interview..
Anyways, its time to rework and rethink ...

Noticed the categories next to screen names for each post. Newbie, Trainee, Expert, Hardcore. Can anyone advise how these are obtained. If it is based on the number of posts by a user, then does anyone know the criteria in terms of posts required for each category.
Yeah, I am looking at "what are my chances" of reaching a hardcore pagal ;-)

Yes, you have guessed it correctly, the status is linked to number of post. First status change will occur at 100 posts and after that I am not sure.
Keep on posting and by the time you get an IIM-A admit, you will be hardcore pagal like me. I can already see the symptoms.

Hi MBAKA,
No I have not heard of a minimum on AWA for admissions
On the weightage in assessment (I cannot specifically comment on IIMA). Just ensure that it doesnt become a point that would draw adcom attention.
My research, talks with admits at various colleges & interaction with adcom members tells me
5-6 doesnt change anything. A 6 is definitely good to show.
4.5 could be an impediment if you are a borderline case &/or manage to demonstrate you "key strengths" on the language front.
Its really tough to get anything below that score. So dont bother.
If you are taking your GMAT in the near future. Try the Barron or Princeton Review GMAT books and stick to the pattern they recommend you cant go wrong.
I have a 5. I stuck to the format on one of the essays & dint on the other. My gut tells me it was a 6 on the first & a 4 on the other.
All the best.
Regards
ARL

Dear ARL,
Thanks for your feedback,i have already given GMAT and my AWA score is 5,so as per your feedback in the safe zone atleast wrt this point.
One more query, this year i have heard that IIMA is going to increase the number of seats to 120,so do you think the average experience will fall from current level of 10 yrs to around 9 yrs.
I would have a experience of almost 7 years in Apr 2008 and my concern is that i may lose out on account of low experience. My GMAT score is 700 and i have worked in area of purchase/materials/global sourcing/vendor development with auto and healthcare companies.
What is your take on this.
regards
MKA
Thanks
MKA
