Thanks in advance!!!
Among IT pros who passed out last year, a lot of them switched to consulting and a few switched to finance(not I-banking but some other finance related stuff). I do not have stats. Those that went back to IT mostly became Business Analysts, BDMs and Product managers.

How many seats are up for grabs this time?

Is it 420 or has the number been beefed up to 560?

Regards,

Though this essay provides a chance to talk about his philanthrophic associations I think his purpose is too unrealistic for an Indian school adcom to believe. So my question is

Does the adcom want to look at the Realistic nature of the essay or is it just helping us vent out such a facet of our personality while admitting a generous dose of fantasy?

We argued, fought but could not reach a conclusion so I thought democracy would help.
I hope to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Guys suggestions please!!

IMO...essays has to be you. the real you only. no fancy dressing up will help coz its going to come out thru the reco, interview or some other part of the app. having said that, i think if you are grandly into philanthropy...then u can reasonably justify 1 mil donation to charity...if the rest of your extra currics and social work points towards such a intent. But simply making such a stake in the essay without adequate background info...would pbbly not win many brownie points.

Happy writing!!

cheers!

Re: ISB 2008 - Interviews and Admits - 01-08-2007, 08:29 PM

Hi all,

Firstly kicking myself for not looking at this thread till now. There was a lot of useful info.. Helped me clear up my mind.. Thank you all!

Firstly my profile:

GMAT: 780

Acads:
Class X - 94.2 % (CBSE)
Class XII - 98.08 % (TN State Board - State First Ranker in 2002.. Finished UG in scholarship from TN govt)
UG - 9.28 / 10.00

Extra-curriculars:
- College Chairman in UG final year.. Conducted events for a few lakhs..
- Dancer
- Multimedia Designer
- Photographer
- Was Cultural Secretary in school
- Currently, organizing lots of events at my work place every week
- Writing and public speaking (speeches I delivered at my work place are being played at Campus Recruitment PPTs and workshops)
- Help my company's campus recruitment team in a lot of its activities.. Recently even went for recruitment to a campus in Chennai..

Now the bad news:
- Only 4.5 in AWA in GMAT
- just around 1 yr 9 months of work-ex
- I/I/M

Now my queries:
1. Can someone tell me whether my AWA score will affect my chances of being called for an interview?
2. Can someone throw some light on the reco forms? Will our evaluators be asked to write an essay abt us? Or will they be asked pointed questions only (like the one quoted in this thread - "Describe his sense of humour")?
3. Am planning for online evaluation. Will the evaluation forms be active only after we submit the application? Or as soon as we enter the evaluators' contact details?

BFU Thalaiva.. a question for you.. Can you pls tell me what SC is all about? What is the kind of work a strategic consultant does? (You from CEG eh? Me from PSG )

One more question BFU.. What kind of a job would a person like me get IF I get into the ISB? I do understand that it lies within me to get what I want.. But realistically speaking, what are the kind of jobs a guy with 2 yrs of exp in IT is most likely to land, post ISB?

flashy_vishy...You have a really good profile in terms of acads, GMAT and work ex but fairly low work ex in IT ! You can aspire to hedge this with other aspects in your application but nothing beats the pure number called work ex. Do highlight the quality of your work ex as that may help to a certain extent. The recos are descriptive answers and the recommender is questioned on various aspects of your personality and team skills. There is nothing like a single essay but questions give ample scope for the recommender to provide a good picture of the applicant.

As for roles post-ISB for a 2 yr exp person. If the person gets back to IT it is generally into pre-sales or in a business analyst position. Career switching to consulting is relatively easier than switching to say Finance/FMCG etc. And for your question on SC I had posted something on my blog long ago on career options. Do let me know if you have any more queries. And yes I'm from CEG ...ATB man!

Regarding the evaluation form....it has a few questions that your evaluator has to answer. it is not as long as a essay but could vary from anywer btwn 50 - 200 words. hope this helps
