deba_s56 I agree with u on this one...See nobody knows what will happen next year..what if the situation improves and you reject the offer from wharton...I think that would be the biggest mistake one could make in his or her life...neways it is again a personal decision how one take it as...

Hope to see some more views on this one...this post seems to get very interesting thanx for making it moving with great thoughts and ideas...

Rinku - you have made the right choice by choosing Columbia, no doubts about it - I would recommend you go there over Rotman (I think I already did in the Rotman thread as well!) - the scholarships at lower ranked schools also don't matter in this scenario...and no one should advise you to drop it either. But there are many people like Simba who would rather stay in the US than go elsewhere for jobs (I personally don't care where I go in the world), so it matters a lot to them and they are disappointed not to continue working in the US after coming to a top 10 school...

Also there is no guarantee that the immigration scene will improve in 2 years - it has been worsening over the years..maybe the next US president might change things or not?! It is a worthy risk yes, but again not everyone wants to deal with that kind of risk right now, with heavy loans...good luck with your endeavor at Columbia - we might cross roads sometime - Rotman & Columbia have alumni partnerships for networking

Two YEARS is a long long time for any change. Look for the best college you have got into and study there.

A democractic president could make it worse. Democrats are far more protectionist than Republicans. However bad Bush was, he did stand for free markets.

Rather worried about U.S. B schools..will apply this year.

Getting H1b visa post MBA - 02-08-2007, 06:39 AM

Hello,

I heard about the recent changes in the H1B visa granting procedure. With the new procedure the predictability of getting an H1B visa has decreased tremendously.

Taking this change into account can anyone tell me if the job prospects for Indian students
after doing an MBA in USA have been affected.

Thanks & Regards,

There have been no changes. (As far as I know!) We have to wait and see what happens. But if you make a top b school in the U.S. the best thing to do is to take it.

I would encourage current students in US univs to give an update on how their seniors fared in the H1 work visa issues, so prospective students can get an idea before applying.

Well, at Columbia everyone except one last year has got H1 Visa. The one who didn't get H1 started at London Office and will be moved back to New York. I am not seeing any impact. All the banks and consulting companies are open to everyone for the intern position.

Go Ahead and apply guys. Don't worry.

I feel top school grads(I mean top 10) will n't be much affected. Grads from Schools ranked 10 -20 are hardest hit by current H1 B scenario. I read on BW that H1 is going to be completely scrapped and replaced with permanent green card scheme. No body knows what the shape of new immigration policy will be. Keep your fingers crossed.
