Puhrince,
If I join as an associate and get promoted to a Vice President, the process starts all over again? what you are saying is all internationals hired at Ibanks/consulting firms blah blah remain as associates for the six years that it takes for GC to be processed? It's a little hard to digest. I am not disbelieving you but it just seems strange!
Is there anybody else who has any insights into this?

lets not talk about it in this thread - we are distracting it away from the main topic..but you can email me or also visit this popular immigration forum below for more info. ImmigrationPortal Forums Quote:

Well I would like to belive that big I banks and consultants never indulge in these matters , there are always ways to get around the Visas and stuff, Big banks and consultancies usually have their offices worldwide so dey can move u dere fr a while and bring u back in a couple of years once u get promoted, there are plenty of ways to get around d GC process if d companys is big enough

I don't know what to make of this, but I got this from a student in US who says MBA students don't qualify for the extension. NAFSA - DHS STEM Designated Degree Programs

Well it has been pretty clear from the beginning that the OPT extension is not meant for MBA grads, having said that the earlier problem of OPT expiring has been taken care of as explained by me in an earlier post, besides the number of H1b's is expected to increase definitely by the time we pass out, the immigration system for green cards though is in a mess right now and would require a comprehensive bill to rectify the same

hi karan
as u said that big banks and consultancies have their offices worldwide and can shift you there
this takes care of the OPT expiring problem
but only a handful get into big banks and consultancies
waht about others - how can the others tackle this issue??

Guys
I have been in US for 5 years now and in my experience, this visa problem will continue to hound us until legislative changes occur. Even if H1bs were to drastically increase ( which is difficult if not impossible), then people will get stuck at green card stage. Many companies have a pretty forward policy of hiring candidates only if they are citizens or PRs. Even if you go a lower rung school but have the skills which employers want, you can gain sponsorship. There are many smaller firms who will hire internationals, but you may have to compromise in terms of job profiles and compensation. Also, with visa lottery , you will need to be lucky though.
Good luck to everyone and Welcome to America! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
