US Visa Cap...Companies in US wont hire international

also forgot to mention that you are allowed to work for a year on a student visa without having to apply for a work visa, during which time students work for companies they would otherwise not join...but by the end of it, they have to apply for the work visa anyway and thats when companies back out..so this statistic of 85% students getting placed could be misleading.

as puhrice mentioned, quite a few indian students have to adjust and take up jobs which they wudnt want to after spending a bomb!!!!
just to add.. the high salaries are bcoz americans end up with more than 2 job offers..
also, mba related jobs are probably less as compared to the MS ones..indians are preferred over Americans atleast for the technical(coding) jobs..

it seems like the situation for Indian MBA students or i mean the international students is pretty bad in US........guys one question:

if a student X from India gets through schools like duke emory...........or i mean top 20 so should he take that course or just think of applying to some other country...

after the above mentioned facts it seems like situation is really so very bad in US....PLEASE THROW SOME LIGHT ON THE SAME

i don't think the problem is with Indians going to US for studying. the cap is for H1B visa, which pertains to people who go from India to US, to work for US companies as contractors. its all done to reduce the number of US employees getting fired every year, and also as a plus point that can be put across in the forth coming presidential elections.

i don't see how students will get impacted from this.

and one can never get a final answer to this question because there are individual cases supporting both options - to take the US schools or to go elsewhere. What I advise is, we get all the facts straight, we ask others for their opinions and then take a decision of our OWN. At the end of your decision, we should have only ourself to either blame or thank.

Bharath - you are missing the point - students get impacted when they graduate and look for jobs on H1, nothing affects them while studying

Duke is a top10 worthy school while Emory is 20ish...Duke is a brand name, Emory although a good school isn't a brand name...so you can't compare the two.

BUT, as bongacaron mentioned, research thoroughly, talk to the international students at Emory and see how they have fared in different career fields and companies they have got into..then make your decision..BUT, if you want to live in the US only, go there..no point thinking about it for long.

when u are a student, u are on student visa. so thats got no cap.
once u graduate and get recruited by a US company, getting u a visa is their headache. they somehow manage it. its very different from an Indian company applying for a H1.

Yes I know about the student visa no cap..regd H1 are you talking about MS (Engg) students who get visas eventually or MBA students where employers are not willing to sponsor H1 in the first place because there are plenty of Americans available for the same job..these are 2 different things (I did my MS in US and worked there for 6 years).
