| MBA denied applicant and essay consulting -

Hi everyone,
I applied to few US B-schools namely Cornell, Yale, Duke, Stern for fall 2007. But my application was rejected without an interview except in case of cornell. i have a good acads and a decent gmat score 720 and a not-IT work ex of 5yrs.
I see a major flaw in my application as a reason for denial since people with similar profiles have been admitted to such b-schools.
After reading my application over and over again, I realise a that i require a refinement in my overall application particularly essay writing.
People in US b-schools say that nearly 80% of the class had used some kind of exernal help or professional essay critiquing/writing/editing services which strengthened their application and boosted their admittance chances.
I used a few books namely Montauk and paul bodine to help me start and structure my essays. And i thought i generated a decent set of essays.
But never had a feedback on them.
I am very much aware of essay writing tips or approaches that are discussed in books and in forums. I am saturated now and am not able to know what exactly is going wrong. I am sure there might be many amongst us who would be facing similar situation like i am in.
So can the admitted students on this forum tell us how they could write winning essays. Whether they took some assistance particularly from essay consulting services and books and online resources they used.
Please share with us the effectiveness of such services.
