Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 31-05-2007, 09:41 PM

Thanks Insead.admit for the reply....

Actually, every B-school says that we make sure that a qualified candidate doesn't walk out just because he din't have the funds.. And they've provison of schols for this purposse..
But in the case of a B-school like INSEAD (and some more schools that do it this way) how can I be sure whether the school is in my budget or not.. What if I get in, apply for a schol and then fail to get it

Anyways.. can you throw some light on the total expenses in INR that u've estimated..It's be nice if u can gimme the break-up too...

(( I know this info is available on most school's site/brochure, but it'd be gud to know it right from the horse's mouth.. )

Race to perfection has no finish line!!

Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 31-05-2007, 11:52 PM

Hi INSEAD.Admit! Firstly, congratulations on joining INSEAD!

I am planning to apply for January 2008. I am 29, a B.E. graduate and have entrepreneurial experience of 10 years in various businesses - IT, jewellery, education and hospitality. During these years I have been dealing with people from India, Dubai, Hong Kong, Italy, UK and Germany. And, yes, have been part of critical decision making, business strategies et al. Had a few questions.

a) How much does entrepreneurial experience count?
b) What GMAT score would suffice, keeping my experience in mind?
c) What tips and suggestions do you have for essay writing?
d) I am married and would like to bring my wife along with me. Does INSEAD provide accomodation to families?

Thats about it.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Joshi Sumit

Sumit,

1) Entrepreneurial experience is valued greatly. Shows you got what it takes to put things into action and not just speak !
2) There is no certain score which will get you in. I would guess 680-700+ should be a safe zone.
3) General cliche. Make a link between your past, future and how insead's diversity will help you.
4) INSEAD like all other top b-schools doesn't provide any official accomadation. People come from very different background and so rent out on their own close to the campuses. These vary from chateau's to condominiums.

Quizophobic:
Finance is always a concern and I Can relate to it. Thats one thing where I have to admit insead suffers. Reason isn't insead per se but the fact that it's only US where thanks to earlier proactive government rules the universities can act as a security and get you a loan. Again this doesn't apply to all universities in US. In insead's case if you have a guarantor say in US , singapore, france, UK, getting a loan isn't that difficult.

I have kept my financial calculation differently as hopefully my wife will work and support me while I am studying (a.k.a partying). And I also have no money savings with me. I have taken a loan of 70k SGD.

Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 01-06-2007, 09:22 AM

hi insead admit, i am extracting text from ur earlier reply and adding comment to it.
bold are your statements, plain text my queries

INSEAD is known to be very strong in strategy.

It's got a very positive recognition in the market for it's rigorous coursework.
could u help me to find something more on it friend? some survey, some link on website? suggest me some place to get info on relative strenths of colleges.

INSEAD is 11 months not because of lack of studies but rather the fact that there was always a scope ( compared to US schools) to compress things into a 11 month marathon.
u sure it is only compression and not omission- remember i am doing a track change from a functional position in sales and marketing to strategy : P.s. can i pm u my profile.

Initially I was also thinking that one won't do much in 11 months. It's just a stamping. But after interacting with students and see'ing their course content w.r.t top 5 schools in US. I am confident that the course will help you get 80-90% (if not all) covered. Rest is on you.
course content where can i get it?
thanks mate!!

If it adds any weight, kelloggs's in US and our very own IIM-A / C also have 1 year MBA's. It just makes your student life more exhausting ( and not to be found hiking in columbia with fellow students on random walks every 2 months )

agree, but i read the blog of 2 insead student and he mentioned only parties on campus was quite strange gave me the feel that the entire atmoshpere was laid back
can u help me with more blog links.???

i have been seriously contemplaating to apply at insead.

So INSEAD should be a very good school for you. You have relevant business experience and now want to polish it more

Bang on , i want to polish skill and add more acadmic inputs to my small experience+ learn global best practises.

As for cost; INSEAD tution fees is 48,000 Euros. This is lower than US schools but definitely more than most other non-US schools. I guess the school considers itself (for a reason) in the same league as top 7 in US and so benchmarks fees in relativity. With a 11 month course your ROI is also bound to be much higher than anywhere else.[/quote]

i think cost is not an issue for a 1 year corse the roi is too good for all one year course we we are ready to slog our ass..

it would be too good if you can give me a link/input on profiles of student studying strategy,

basically i am trying to have a one to one encounter with the people who are into insead for strategy.

looking forward to your answer

regards,
Sunil

Sunil

I am sorry but the information you are asking for is beyond what I can give you. Like I cannot give you (nor have at this stage) the exact course content. In fact, when I asked so many current students on for my own reasons on course depth and when everyone told me that it's indepth enough I trusted them. Your request for survey and all. well sorry I dont have any such info. I guess its more like word of mouth / experience/ some common sense.

At least in my case, I was lucky to have spoken first hand to a professor from top US school as well. He has taught at insead as well and he confirmed to me that course depth is good enough. Only issue is that it's best suited for people who have some prior experience ( as it lessens the new thing factor).

As for blogs and parties. Well check out domodomo's blog. He captures some part of studies (and some real incise comments on his experience with professors and what he learned). zanatos's blog also looked interesting. He mixes a lot of personal (greek) stuff into it but look around and u will find what people found great.

See being a 1 year course people also dont reply much to anonymous mails. You got to accept the course rigor. I have been advised to decide and set priorities straight away between girls, parties and studies Idea is if u know what u want, remain focussed in the myriad of options which insead could open for u. you would be fine.

If you want to take things slowly, look for more options, try internship, talk / mingle more with recruiters go to a 2 year course.

Hope this helps!

Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 01-06-2007, 01:17 PM

Thanks INSEAD.admit. Indeed a great help.

-When should one ideally apply for Jan 2008 admissions?
-Would you also be staying with your wife during your course with INSEAD? How expensive and difficult is it to get accomodation for families in the vicinity?
-My wife would want to work while I pursue my course. She's a British national who's done her post graduation from NMIMS, Mumbai. Does Fontainebleau offer any job opportunities?

Thanks again.

P.S. - It's difficult addressing someone "INSEAD.admit". Could you come out of your anonymity and share your name please?

Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 02-06-2007, 01:00 AM

Thanks insead admit,

your frank response has helped me, actually i was looking for specifics which i believe i can get from alumni rather than admits and current students.(no offence ment friend) and i agree, if i hvae 1 year at college i wont waste it answerng mails.

to tell u frankly i have heard so much ++ about insead that i wanted to get a first hand account for same.i have read amazing strategy book by a korean insead professor, i also wanted to know if there is more to them.and the acadmia generally speak of insead witha halo

i guess i should apply first and think later

as for rigour, my professional lifestyle for over 4 years has been such rigorous that anythign laidback will kill me

thanks again dude

Question Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 18-08-2007, 04:05 PM

Hi INSEAD.admit. I went thru this thread & was happily surprized to see a person answering so many questions & showing such concern & committment. This is commendable help you are lending to the community.

I am a woman from India also thinkging about applying to INSEAD. I will have 4 yrs work ex by sept 2008. i am a Comp sc engg from a good college in India, with decent acads & extra cirrics. Working with an IT consulting firm as a software developer cum consultant. the client is a leadign hedge fund in US. Have travelled to london, chicago, hk, multiple no of times but short stints everytime (1.5 to 3 months), with a new responsibility everytime. I am leading a team of 2 people & have played a role in mentoring these people as well. Have taken some initiatives for people growth in my company & have been recognized by my compnay for the same. GMAT 710.
I consider my no fear attitude, proactiveness & humane angle in conversation with people my strengths & my carelessness my weakness. But i am improving on it.

I am struggling with the dilemma of whether to apply to INSEAD or not. Provided I write some good essays, can you give me a candid opinion on my chances? I might sound selfsish here, but will being a woman be considered an added advantage?
Looking fwd to your opinion.

Regards.
