Harvard Business School(2007)Indian Admit!!! Also Taking Questions

Hi Cryone,

Doesnt seem like you have been responding to posts lately. However it is worth giving it a shot to hear from someone at HBS directly. I am looking to apply to R1 fall 2009 batch. I will have 3 yrs workex at a top 5 ibank and have a 760 gmat. I am a B. Tech + M. Tech from a top engg college in India with a decent academic performance. So academics are more or less okey. What is a problem though is that I have almost no awards and recognitions and very few if at all extracurrics such as sports or debates.

I understand that applying makes sense for almost anybody with atleast one of the two aspects strong. However from what I have read it seems HBS demands much more. On a fair assesment what chances do you think my application stands for an interview.

Need some feedback from the wise ones....

Am looking at US schools, H/S/W - like the rest of the world. But want to understand if I measure up....
Profile - 29 / Male / Indian ... 7 years WE , of which , 5 yrs- Consumer Goods - PepsiCo, 1yr- Consulting - Ernst & Young and 1yr+-Banking (current job) - Citi, not the best of names these days ...

GMAT - 720, 81% - 10th & 12th, BBS (CBS - DU)- 65%, MBA - FMS - 65%

Potential pitfalls - Already have an MBA .. the objective now is to change tracks. Aim to get into IB.
Target Schools (no particular order)
Stanford / Harvard / Wharton / Darden.... targeting round 1- Fall Sept 2009 intake.
I was mildly confident despite my age, but having read some of the comments on the blog I was forced to rethink my decision to apply.

It would be great help if you can help me put things into perspective. Please tell me in your opinion, basis your experience on this blog and otherwise, what kind of a chance do I stand.....

hello cryo sir,

i am hitesh and after reading your replies on this forum , i found out that hbs 2+2 is apt for me .
i have just completed my 2nd year in college and i am damn desperate to enter into a good b school just after graduation .
i would be really obliged if you could just guide me on this , me being totally new to all the jargon related to the b school admission.
well, as far as my profile goes ---

10th boards cbse - 95.4 % ( one of the highest scorer in delhi) and school topper

12th boards cbse -- 91.4% ( school topper )

was school topper throughout

and currently studying in delhi college of engineering

just took my 4th sem exams and

up to now i have - 75% agg and curretly delhi university topper in my stream of production engineering

projects


i have done a project on speculation of output and logistics in case of stochastic production lines under the guidance of my HOD and i plan to publish it too.

i have been involved in training about autocad in college premises
i am currently engaged in a training stint with maruti suzuki ,gurgaon

extra qualification


i have done C++ course from NIIT
i have done A1 and A2 level courses in french from alliance francaise de delhi

i have also done autocad course from CADD centre ,delhi

extra curriculars

i have been the head boy of my school as well as the house captain of my house .

i have organised several events in the college's fest.

i am one of the co founders of the online newsletter of our college with that i serve as a writer and a photographer.

i am the founder and the president of the photography club in the college.

i was a active quizzer, debater and member of dramatics club in school times and have won many prizes .


hobbies ( i don't know if we are supposed to mention that or not ) anyways

i am a photography enthusiast and an active blogger ..
my blog has many of my self composed poems and book reviews
i read a lot and love to write poetry in my leisure time ..

and there are few other things as well//
but , please all you guys who have made it to the top b schools , please shed some light on my issue .. i will be obliged . i fear that time might run out ....

HEY guys !
sorry for the hasty post that i just made .
i just realized that the fall 2011 admission date that they claim to be over is for the students who will be graduating in 2009 because then they would be working for two years there only and joining HBS in 2011 .. am i rite ?? or the 2011 is the year of joining the job ? please , people help me out >

Unfortunately, you've missed the bus for the HBS 2+2 program. You have to be in/entering your 3rd year of college to be eligible to apply. Then you apply for class of 2014 since your admission will get confirmed next year. You study your final year and then work 2years and off you go to college for 2years. That's how the 2years of work and then 2years of study comes into play.
